1988 Shogun Prairie Breaker Team Issue

Was looking through the local CL and found this oddball bike. Only reason I say oddball is because it has a 24" front wheel and not 26". Notice the 4 x 6 sticker on the chainstay so I think it's legit. I got the whole bike less the rear wheel for a few dollars, $60 to be exact. All XT M730 build so seems correct for the era. I think it sat outside during the last storm we had here since all of the components were free of rust but was waterlogged. I'm not sure where this bike stands in collectability but to me it's darn nice. Yes, the fork brakes are set for a 24" wheel but will accept a 26" but brakes will not contact rim, too tall. I just broke it down to see what problems may be in store for me but only issues I see are the chrome having pitting so will work that out with stainless steel wool and new clear coat. Last pic is what I have done today, needs more but getting there.

So it takes a 26" rear wheel, or am I mistaken? If so, that's an odd set-up!

Yes, 26 rear, 24 front. I have detailed a few parts and threw the original front wheel with a 26 I had sitting in my garage to see how this thing is going to look. Kinda like a road bike look too it, tall stem, smaller front wheel...hmmm...drop bars would be the way to go, no? Seller was original owner and he is liking what I have done so far with the bike so maybe keeping it a true MTB might be in order.

The usual Pairier Breaker Team Issue for 1988 had an triple triangle like frame design and - of course - regular 26" wheels.


but i have found meanwhile some details to the strange 4x6 frame.
It was called Microframe and was a specific design to better fit to woman's anatomy.

It was available as option for a few models from 1988.

Finally the tires arrived and the rest of the parts are reinstalled. I went with some Amazon cheapies hoping they roll round and not bumpy too bad and was I surprised how true they spin, better than the Terra's I have on a few bikes. I'm still waiting for the right saddle, the WTB is a place holder for now.
