got ths a bit ago and having loaded 6 bikes in the van today made the most of the free space for a wee while to see whats what with it.

plans at mo are to gently wet sand it and polish it up to see if i can restore it a bit. clean some spare deore/dx/exage parts i have kicking about and build it up as a rider over autumn/winter. it has the original brakes so theyll be staying but we will see how comfy the levers are first.............n+1 eh haha

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

frames been stripped and cleaned, and had a bit of this

came up reasonably well considering, not a patch on the original colour but its nearly 30 years old.....

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

these should clean up well

choice of bars but ive cleaned and cleared the OE ones as they fit the 26.0mm stem

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

deore lovelyness, only had to buy the rear mech so far....

after

begining to reeeeeaaaaaly like this bike

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

I like it! shows what a bit of elbow grease/finishing compound can do to those old steeds

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

These are class. This is the twin of my yellow 87 Trekker. Brilliant easy riding frames, love this era of Saracen.

Actually really fancy getting another one and going fully modern with the wheels an groupo, as frame set on these is perfect

Your rebuild looks to be right on the money. Keep up the good work!

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

Really nice job onthe cleaning! You can tell this is a good 'ol late 80s machine right away by the color-matched stem and the under-chainstay U brake.

Re: 1987 saracen tufftrax

This is so cool! Great work on the frame and brakes - really impressed

I have an 88 in yellow which is a project for this winter - really looking forward to getting it sorted out.
