1987 Raleigh Road Ace 57cm/22½in Reynolds 531C Shimano 600EX with STI
For sale is my classic, retro Raleigh Road Ace from the Lightweight Division built with a Reynolds 531C frame & forks and a Shimano 600EX groupset:
front changer, rear changer, 13-21T cassette, 52/42T chainset, pedals & toe clips,
bottom bracket, headset, SIS gear levers, brakes, 36-spoke hubs.
I bought this bike new in 1987 and it has given faultless service. The brake/gear levers have since been upgraded to Shimano Sora STI but the original SIS levers and cables are included with the bike, as is an assortment of rear sprockets enabling you to modify the original 13-21T cassette to 13-23T or 13-28T.
The tyres have recently been replaced with Vittoria Rubinos 700x23 – the tyres, the Cinelli handlebar tape and the modern toe straps are the only other non-original parts.
Originally supplied non-Shimano components are: Weinmann 913 rims, SR Laprade fluted seatpost, Iscaselle Tornado blue suede saddle, SR Sakae engraved alloy bars and SR Custom alloy stem.
The bike comes with its original Raleigh build sheet (dated 07/09/1987), the builder’s signed certificate and the Raleigh brochure for 1987 which includes this model. As you might expect with a bike of this age, there are some cosmetic blemishes, mainly rust spots around the lugs and some rust on the chromed seat rails but overall it’s in excellent condition with no dents or dings.
It’s ready to ride as it is or to return to concours condition. I’m looking for £250 with collection from East Lancashire or will meet within 30 miles of Burnley.
