Nice, very early addition to the collection at stupido towers thanks to hydorah's generous offer. Planning an oily rag period spec rebuild, it will be well serviced but not very shiny, and I'm going to try not to obsess too much about how "correct" it is.

Lots of info in the thread above. Still some mystery around the frame's origins...

Hydorah very kindly included the l/h Suntour shifter (mainly because I told him I had a lonely r/h one to match). As it happens they are slightly different (mine is a slightly later variant which came off a Dawes Ranger I had years ago). Good enough! He also very kindly threw in some very cool grips.

I'm still after some suitable mechs, a 26.4 seatpost, and a chainset. Anyone got anything?

Super cool

Have started buying bits... decided against the original spec Mountech rear mech as IME they are fragile/unreliable. They also seem to fetch decent money these days.

Ok this is a bit early (date code is 1976) but hey ho. I think it will look nice.

Besides, I'm not the only one who thinks it's a better bet than a mountech,

"It is also an oft-forgotten fact that the simple, strong, competent SunTour V GT Luxe was the preferred derailleur of many early mountain bikers - the SunTour Mountech and Shimano Deore XT (M700), with their multiple sprung pivots were initially viewed with some (justifiable) suspicion."

It'll do!

Re:

Another purchase  . This is dated 1984. Both Suntour mechs are beautifully light.

I'm thinking I might not bother cleaning anything up. That's what always takes the most time on a rebuild.
