Ah and incidentally, the CB rear rack is not very rigid. It'll do for my needs for now but I wouldn't want to do a loaded tour with it.

I binned so many of those

Hehe... Peachy's not going to talk you any more.

I think they look quite nice but do often get bent... I have binned similar although not a CB one... yet. ;)

A more modern alloy rack would deffo be a worthwhile upgrade... but it's a perfect perch for the dynamo light... we'll see.

For now I'm trying to ignore the CB and get some of my half-finished projects finished first.

Ok ok, so maybe it’s not really up for some serious touring kit, but how about just hang it up in the workshop rather than throwing it the bin?

I'm only teasing mate... I'm with you - it's too nice to bin. Would offer it to you before getting rid in any case... :D

Just been looking back through some stuff I’ve got on the CB Panache (84/85, like the Dalesman but with tighter angles/shorter wheelbase) it came with that very Dynamo set....

Re: 1983 Claud Butler Majestic

Nice!

Had a fiddle today. Couldn't get the dynamo to work easily so took it off, together with some other tat.

Basically adjusted a few bits and doused everything in wd40. Rides OK now although chain sometimes still fails to mesh when shifting.

It's not fast but it is SMOoTH. Climbs surprisingly easily too.

What's the Blackburn plastic thingy I wonder? Seems familiar...

Re: 1983 Claud Butler Majestic

I am sure I had the chain miss the cogs and spin up if not absolutely precise with the lever. Its why I dumped all my crappy old stuff and stuck with indexed and ramped cassettes

Yeah, that's roughly what it's doing, although it goes into gear nicely more often than not. I've experienced it before, but also had plenty of smooth shifting non- indexed setups.

I think shortening the chain (and increasing mech spring tension) might help pull the chain down on to the cogs. Chain is way longer than it needs to be. Lubricating the mech has definitely helped and it should free up a bit more in use.

Fitting the older wider chains worked but it was still 'clank clank clank clank clunk'
