1983 Joe Breeze Series III "The Breezer"

Awesome bike and awesome effort to restore it!

If you are actually gonna ride it, you might think about removing the gold annodization on the rim braking surfaces and save yourself the agony of squealing brakes

I once used strips of Scotch Brite pads wedged between the brake pads and rim, and rode around with the brakes lightly applied, stripped off the anno quickly and cleanly

That and a little toe adjustment (by bending the Mafac arms!) and you should be ready to bomb Repack ;)

After completing the restoration I sent photos to the gentleman I bought the Breezer from. I thought you all would get a kick out of his response. Photos below:

Hi Nick,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your email, the holiday season you know. The bike looks fantastic and you are right, it is a beauty that you can’t stop admiring! As I think we have all done, seeing it now makes me wonder if I did the right thing by letting it go? That said it did receive the love and attention it so deserved so I am very happy for that!

The following is the real story of how it came to me, so hang on to you hat/helmet. I was sitting in my favorite coffee shop one afternoon when a buddy walked in with an old Miyata road bike frame which he had just picked up at our local scrap metal dealer. During our conversation he mentioned that he had seen another old cool looking frame that appeared to be chrome plated leaning against one of the sheds but he didn’t know what kind/make it was. Intrigued and on a whim I looked at my watch, there was 20 minutes left before they closed so I downed my coffee and took a blast out there to satisfy my curiosity. They were just getting ready to close the gates when I arrived, luckily I knew the guys who worked there so they let me take a quick look around. There were still a few people wandering around when I pulled in and when I saw the frame sitting there I knew exactly what it was, I couldn’t believe it or get my hands on it quickly enough! As I relate this story to you I still can’t believe it! The planets aligned, the bike gods were looking down, however you want to say it, some divine force called on me that day to go there and thankfully save it from the crusher. I just came across a couple of pictures (attached) I took the day I saved it, a jewel in the rough for sure. It had a “West Point Cycles” sticker on it, a long time bicycle shop in Vancouver, BC that is still around, you can just make it out in one of the photos. Maybe it was originally purchased there? So that is the story of how it came to me and as a result ended up with you to restore for all to see and appreciate, great job and a very fitting ending!
