1982 Salsa Scoboni #5 "Restoration" *Final Photos Page 11*

Re: 1982 Salsa Scoboni #6 Build Restoration

All the parts for this build have officially been curated and the bike should be finished being built up in the next couple weeks.... just enough time for me to start putting some miles on it for Keyesville.

After a lot of research and talking with Ross Shafer himself, I am confident that this bike is Salsa #5 not #6. On Mombat's site it says that 6 bikes were originally made however no one can confirm that there were ever 6 including Ross himself. He is confident that there are only 5 and there are 5 that are accounted for.

"It may be #5 since as it was in the first batch of Salsa's I built. I've always remembered that first batch as being 6 bikes, but for the life of me I can't come up with the 6 names they went to, I can only account for 5. ...no matter really." Ross Shafer

In order to ride this bike on a regular basis with "period correct tires" I opted for this repop set of Panaracer Timbuk II's available over at First Flight. Great for someone that doesn't want to ruin their NOS snakebelly's but wants to have a period correct look to their vintage stead. (and they even have that fresh new rubber smell)

:| Sigh. Aaah no comment....... :|

Great call on the rider tires. Will you throw a set of early IRC's or Stumpjumpers for the initial photo shoot?

I am excited for you TPC

Ductape: What do you mean by no comment? Are you referring to the first round of Salsa's only being 5 vs 6?

In terms of tires for photo, I am still on the hunt for a set of IRC's or SJ's. I have a set of SJ's on the Breezer Series III but don't want to be swapping tires in and out for photos. If anyone following this build thread has a line on a set of IRC's or SJ's please PM me.

No, I was referring to the part where I love that bike want it in my own garage and kept hoping you would totally loose interest in it and sell/trade it to me for something I could afford!

One of the coolest bikes out there!

Ahhhh, understood! I have had the bike hanging across from my desk for the last year and have falling in love with it after my initial uncertainty about painting the frame. I am SOOOO thankful I didn't send it off to get painted. I plan on putting a couple years of miles on the bike but who knows. You are always welcome to borrow it! I'll gladly mail it out to you for a couple months of riding if you are interested.

Re: 1982 Salsa Scoboni #5 Build Restoration

I was thinking that earlier. Gently take the tires off the Breezer and install for the photo shoot.

I have two beautiful sets of early IRC's that are going on the 83 Competition (1.75's) and the 83 Mtn Goat (2.125's). You are welcome to borrow them for pics. Just the cost of round trip shipping but I think it would look nice with those Breezer tires.

I will get my chance at Keyesville this year!

Thanks for the offer on the IRC's. If you hear of any other ones for sale please let me know. I'll use the SJ's off the Breezer for photos or use the NOS set that TD has in his stash.

Stoked to hear you will be at Keyesville this year. You'll have plenty of time to put ride this bike! This bike was made to be ridden and I'm looking forward to adding some patina of my own.

Amazing - It would have been perfectly acceptable if you had painted. Looking forward to the resto.
