Yeah it must be 15 years too new for the bike (although about the same age as me...), but I figure it's what you probably would have bought having had the bike for a decade when the Simplex went...

Hi, I’ve been looking at this thread as I recently picked up similar Sun Snipe. Whilst I have a modern mountain bike, road bike and gravel bike which I’m used to building and maintaining, this is my first foray into vintage bikes. I’ve striped it down and I’m beginning the process of degreasing and de-rusting components. The paint on the frame is quite battered in places but I like the patina effect since it is part of the history of the bike. I especially love the alloy components which should clean up really nicely. The pedals and cranks have a lot of surface rust so I’ll see whether they are recoverable. Just need some wheels and rear derailleur.

Well it has taken some months of finding bits of time here and there to work on it, but I finally started the build. Everything stripped, cleaned and re greased. I love how fast it looks without the brake levers and tape applied.

Well, here it is. Far from perfect. Will probably swap the white cotton tape for brown or leather. Otherwise reasonably happy.
