Who did the paintwork ?

Don't know who did the paint job. I bought the frame as it is now. Haven't managed to progress much with building it up yet though. Bought some Velo Orange rims, Campag hubs and some other bits and pieces, but still trawling through a parts list on eBay. Been busy with some other bikes also. Hoping to get this built up over the winter.

This is a beautiful frame. I remember ogling over it on eBay. Unfortunately seller would not ship to Canada, altho... probably fitting it remain in the homeland!

Re:

The rear ends look like Cyclo, Simplex would have a fine thread through the mounting hole, definitely not Huret.

Re:

I am restoring a similar Holdsworth Monsoon frame. Mine is older and I need to find a Simplex or Hurex Tour De France derailleur, but that's an aside.

The frame had been so badly painted and repainted so badly that it was impossible to tell the original colour, so I chose a cherry red.

I haven't been able to find an original colour print of the Monsoon so I want to know if the bands are based on personal choice or on an original design. I would like my frame to be as original as possible.

Please let me know.

Sorry, can't help you on that question. The frame is as I bought it, already resprayed. I don't know at the moment how 'original' it is. I just like it as it is though.

Thanks for the update on the frame.

My frame is defintely a Simplex drop hanger. I know this, because it was originally cut off, and I had to put it back on!. I hope I won't regret this, as I am struggling to get a Simplex single wheel derailleur to go with it!

There seem to be plenty of rod type front derailleurs, but I'm not intending to use one, but no rear. It has to be a Tour De France model. I have been told that a Huret model fits, but I'm not sure if it bolts through or uses the Simplex thread.

I usually find what I want on ebay, even if I don't like the porice, but not this time.

Anyone know a specialist collector?

Hi Paul,
How is the frame progressing? Just thought I would check and see how far ahead you were with it.
It's such a lovely frame and really nicely refinished.

Thanks for asking Jamie, I'm afraid I've been too lazy building other bikes. I keep finding great little cheap frames and doing a quick rebuild. I've been finding some parts for the Monsoon and hope to get cracking with it this summer. Running out of space though, so clearing a few old bits and pieces first.

Cheers mate, I know what it's like but to me that just means it's a keeper and something special if the build time has no timescale or end date.

Jamie
