I have a 1 1/8'' Syncros Ahead stem but the 1'' quill adapter I tried has too fat a bolt to fit the Syncros top cap.

Is there a quill adapter out there that will work? Or am I going to have to drill out the top cap?

Yes, I know I should just get a 1'' quill stem, but this Syncros is perfect for the build.

Get a bolt with a narrower head.

Is the whole thread size larger than the standard M6 starfangled one.
There are two problems, the adapter bolt threads won't fit through the syncros cap, and the cap itself is slanted, whereas quill adapters all have flat caps. I can fit it but there will be a bit of adapter sticking out the top of the stem which will look ugly.

I think I'm just going to have to accept defeat, a shame because the stem is otherwise perfect for the build.

You can run it lower (with a little bit above the cinch clamp) but is doesn't solve the other problems.

Unless you can find an extender that works differently.
The Syncros top cap will crack if used to clamp the expander bolt down. They're not designed for that.

Something more of the design of the newer starfangled nut alternatices (the exandding wedges) , but for an extender.

The style I'm thinking is like this, I have never used them.

I belive that top nut has a thread in it and become the star fangled nut alternative.

Of course in 1"

And hopefully someone has used one.
