So what tyres could be fitted to it?
Originally the rear wheel would have 2 tyres fitted, any 26 x 1.95 - 2.2's with one on the front. The rear is literally 2 rims welded together.

This one looks like the centre sidewalls have been modified to fit a single fat tyre.

Not sure that’s the case with the Orbit, take a look at the rear wheel in this pic, it has a central ridge along the tyre side of the rim, but the spoke side looks seamless no?

Yeah, it certainly looks like it's a single wide rim, shame because those twin rims are extremely hard to find comparatively. Still an interesting and rare piece of MTB history.
How did they cover the holes? I would imagine even with some kind of strip that water would work its way in there, with no strip the tubes would be exposed. If they made the holes to save weight how much less would protective strips weigh than the removed disks?
