2001 Airborne Corsair with Magma titanium fork

Looks awsome! Spins definitely take me back to my bmx racing days. Have you thought about some home made titanium v brakes? :) Since your an engineer and all! A pro carbon seat would just top it off with that "stealth" status. http://www.aspirevelotech.com/Merchant2 ... ech-Saddle Mind...

    Lahar bikes :)

Well being LAHAR is no more, I figured I'd post a nice article on it I stumbled on yesterday. Read it more than once, and drooled over the pics even more :) http://www.nsmb.com/3463-readers-rides-16 I know it seems kinda like a waste to start a thread specifically for this, but I figure...

    First time BMX

I'd search locally at the race track. Unlike street/dirt/etc bikes, race bmx bikes are generally tailored specifically for kid's size. IE the JR's really are JR's etc. The bikes are ultra light and pretty durable, but of course not near what a heavier bike would be. You could most...

98 Club Roost DH8, finished for now 9/10/10

To add... a custom axle isn't just somethng to get for extreme use... even pedaling around it will be noticeable. The one single issue with shivers was the axle. It was a major flaw... and manitou solved it w a hex axle. Its def worth 50 bucks to invest even if they won't see much heavy...

98 Club Roost DH8, finished for now 9/10/10

ATF? may I ask for what purpose? The best stuff to run in shiv's is 5 or 7.5 weight gold spectre. I found they dive going into corners etc with 5 unless you crank your compression on both legs a considerable amount, but once done, they are ultra smooth. Also, best fix for shivers to fix...

damn I wanted to post this is my original post :/ O well, finally got a working link to it. Hike and bike anyone? :)

Differences in opinions on DH from a retro perspective

your exactly right. Especially as you get into the dh realm of travel. It does allow leeway for error, but none the less, generally injuries will be much greater on a big bike, just due to the nature of riding. Which is why I always wear my full armor, even on local rides. Even ones I'll be...

Differences in opinions on DH from a retro perspective

yes yes yes :) I've been looking at that thread for awhile. The issue there is I get so damn distracted by the pics I forget any point I had in looking at the thread to begin with. IE why I created this thread just for typing :))

Differences in opinions on DH from a retro perspective

Well guys, I figured I'd make a post here to see what some retro collectors and fans thought about downhill (In general really). I'm really curious to see some of the viewpoints on it compared to other sites. I generally see a lot of bashing on downhill and it's bikes, from the older folks...

Show us your late 90s DH bikes

Very interesting. I def know carbon would handle a flat or round impact like a tree or log, but I'm def curious to what would happen is you crushed it into a jagged rock etc. I curious to why companies making carbon fiber bikes don't make a vid showing durability in such tests. May have to email...

Show us your late 90s DH bikes

BTW, those Lahar's (sorry If I'm misspelling, but I haven't double checked the spelling once yet lol) are one of only a few true rearward travel bikes. The Canfield F1, and Canfield Jedi are both reward path bikes. I have to say, this is definitely the route I'm taking for my next frame. Lahar...

Yea GT had a full carbon bike as well. Lahar are beautiful. SOmeone has one on here. The new santa cruz isn't entirely carbon like you mentioned. I think those half carbon bikes are kind'a hackish IMO. It's like an easy way out because the chainstays are the hardest thing to design for...

Show us your late 90s DH bikes

Unfortunately the industry caught up with him. The "lugs" he uses on stuff like you mentioned always have had that butch look to em, but people that have seen hand done work with carbon are used to it. It's the outsiders who just go off what they are fed to them by marketing that thing it's a...

Show us your late 90s DH bikes

BCD carbon frames are freakin awsome. Up there with lahar IMO. It's a shame the carbon looks so "rugged" or I'm sure they would have an easier time pulling people away from IBIS who has that clean car production look to em.

    Airborne Lucky Strike Update P5

Looks absolutely gorgeous! eeeeeeeek! I wouldn't trust an Airborne bmx frame if I was given it and paid to ride it. I have personally witnessed 2 break... in multiple places at the same time. Careful mate, they are just as bad as the brand x ti forks that raped the market in the early/mid...

    '98 Rockhopper

they are also strong as Iron considering how much they weigh. Does anyone know the cutoff date for V brakes on the rockhopper? This will help me figure out the date of mine. Came with 1 1/8 threadless steer, judy forks, and v brakes. Think it was a 97-98 but I'm really not sure.
