Fillet brazed columbus frame - new build - paint touching

Looks like a mid-nineties Tig welded Columbus Genius frameset. These frames are probably as good a steel frame as you could get, before everything moved towards aluminium and then carbon.:cool::cool:

    Work bikes

My new work bike. Excellent way to get around the 40 acres of vineyard I'm currently managing. I used to have a 94 Lavadome build and swapped most of the parts over to this one. Drivetrain and shifters are Deore LX 563 and a pair of Rockshox forks with short travel.

Reynolds 531 tube frames with clearance for 32 mm tires

Re: I stand corrected on the tyre clearance for 80's/90's steel frames. The framesets I've built up, have mainly been the type that would have been raced or used without mudguards. There is a difference in handling characteristics between a short wheelbase (non Mudguard) and a long wheelbase...

Reynolds 531 tube frames with clearance for 32 mm tires

Re: I think you might struggle to find a frame from that period with clearance for 28mm+ tyres. For reference, I've built up a few late eighties/nineties frames with 25mm tyres on wide rims, which can be a total of 27mm wide, and the clearance between the rear stays and the tyre is pretty...

Re: Congratulations on a really nice build. I'm a big fan of Italian steel frames with "modern" groupsets, though in your case 10 speed Record could have been specced for the year the frame was produced. The re-finishing on the Ergolevers is superbe and something that I've wanted to do for...

Need help identifying. Is this a genuine Montello???

Re: Definitely a quality steel Pinarello frameset from the 80's/90's which has been resprayed. The bottom bracket lugs do point towards a Montello frame. The sloping fork crown suggests mid to late 80's onwards, though the fork could be a replacement (Need to check matching frame & fork Numbers)

    Holdsworth Super Mistral

Re: These frames were made for 27" wheels and to my mind 700c wheels just don't look right, unless you want to use mudguards. If you're into classic frames then investing in a set of good 27" wheels is well worth it.
