Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

While we are all reluctant to accept change, most change brought to us by the megacorps makes them more money and less liable. 🙄 On the+ve note, if you let ebay buy the courier service(making sure the weight and sizes are correct) they then deal with the "I never got it mate" customers...

what to go for, touring or hybrid

Surly LHT is a lump of iron compared to top end 531. But if you want discs, you need thicker gauges. And fatter tyres make tube compliance less important.

what to go for, touring or hybrid

You really want a drop bar to cover miles. Those early 90s 531 tourers like the rando, royal, dalesperson or gal are nearly perfect. Make sure you get 8 speed cassette and canti setup, so it's all modernisable if required. You'll find the stem is too long, and the bars are too throwy and deep...

Help identifying bike model and repair suggestions

It's quite a basic bike to spend a lot of time on - but if you're happy then it's no problem. I think you'll find the brakes are inadequate for the gearing and riding position. An "allround" bar would probably work better, although you might need to replace the brake levers and possibly...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Seems obvious now, but they had to sink the airliner in a massive pool of water and pressurise/ deinflate it hundreds of times to find out the problem!. Some 90s aluminium frames had those round corners where the Chainstay and the seat stay were a single tube bent round - possibly trying to...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Early compact chainset. Change gear at the summit, and in the valley. Probably while smoking a Gauloise. I know that in the 40s, aluminium fatigue cycles were not fully understood*, but in the 21st century, this looks like an obvious problem: I don't think I'd take this out for a ride of more...
