Dude your bike looks amazing... Really gets me motivated 😉 I'm not too Sure of the rears, branded as Shimano, but don't see any model numbers/names and the fronts are dia compe vc727 (which I understand are what the bike came with from factory). Feel free to have a look in post number 26 for...

New boy on the scene 97 rockhopper

Right so got back home, and as promised took some more pictures. As you can see, the rack is bolts are supposed to be there. Good news for me. I noticed that the front and rear breaks are different. But I'm happy with the performance so they'll stay like that. Just ordering some new bits to...

I am guessing but another layer or two of lacquer could stop the micro cracks from spreading. Have to ask some paint guys I think.

The wax idea is interesting, I think I can possibly improve on it though. I think I'll using a very mild abrasive on the corrosion and instead of wax try some of that ceramic coating they use for cars. Might give me a years protection on the exposed metal as well as the paint. Failing that...

New boy on the scene 97 rockhopper

Just had a look at your build, it's coming along nicely. I'm planning to take mine apart and do the same when the weather gets slightly warmer. Quick question, is there anything I can do now to prevent the corrosion from spreading further and causing more paint to chip off. I'll slacken the...

New boy on the scene 97 rockhopper

That tank-ness? Is the reason I was attracted to the bike, I'll double check the frame with a magnet to check if it's steel or aluminium. Let's see your bad boy, throw a picture up, share the love. Thanks Singhsan

New boy on the scene 97 rockhopper

Thanks, that looks promising, but to confuse matters a bit I found http://www.mountainbikecatalogue.com/specialized/1990-1999/1997/rockhopper-a1.html This looks identical to mine save for the rear rack lugs, but the if the colour is anything to go by, bright blue, I think you're on the money...

Hi folks, Been lurking for a while, and been looking out for a retro bike. Well today I pulled the trigger and got a specialized rockhopper. I must confess I know nothing about it, but when I was younger I always lusted after getting one of these but could never afford it. I've been told...
