On balance, I still am not a fan of e-bikes (previously known as ‘I just don’t get E bikes’)

I’ve seen a decline in E bike usage where I am. It’s been replaced by those E-scooters (Either bought or rented). What’s paradoxal though, not too long ago, I was being socially pressured to « switch my lights off » « nuclear energy is dangerous » save the environment etc etc. Now my city, which...

Mag steerer tube threading. Any tips?

Thought I would give an update. In the end, I went through it anyway and it worked using the die. No damage to the tool and after testing seems to be good. Heres the video, procedure Etc. Thanks for all the advice which ended up being useful.

    Deore XT ST-M739 Brifters

Someone asked me this recently (Difference between Old and new paul love levers). I’ve tested canti/vbrakes using Avid ultimates, speed dials, LX M600’s. From my experience, what you have done has defo matched the same pull needed for cantilever brakes. From what I’ve read, it wasn’t intended...

Mag steerer tube threading. Any tips?

Ah ok, understand why you said this now. I’m presuming that some steerer’s have thicker walls, as they were made with the intention of, threadless only. Meaning a quill stem might not fit. Yeh I’ve noticed some mag steerers have a sticker warning not to thread lower . Anyhoo, before I commence...

I live in france and have been looking out for one to pop up for quite some time, rarely sold seperately. RST? That I do have! Looks like I have one where the steerer can be knocked out? Quick search online: threaded steerer tube for 7,99e (very cheap)...

Mag steerer tube threading. Any tips?

Ah ok, understand why you said this now. I’m presuming that some steerer’s have thicker walls, as they were made with the intention of, threadless only. Meaning a quill stem might not fit. All I have to compare to, is a RS judy threaded steerer. The steerer on the far right does seem to be...

Mag steerer tube threading. Any tips?

Hi, I’m about to thread a steerer on a mag21. A friend borrowed me the tool for it (which he’d never used). Initially the mag I got was threadless, but for aesthetic reasons, I’d like it threaded. Plus the original build was a threaded mag21 on a peugeot team grisley. Any tips before I commence...

    Todays experiment in crank restoration!

Nice, got a Xt black crankset with similar rub marks. Tried using that product that is used to blacken tools with, but that didn’t really work.

Rubbish brands that made a good bike?

They sold quite nice frames in the 90’s. It’s got quite a following in france. Probably the most popular 90’s bike in france if I think about it. Would need to be in a reverse thread though; something like « Used to be good and became rubbish »

VLS Spring fork dilema (fork seal)

HI, trying to get this fork back to at least usable condition. Elasto’s/MCU/Polyurethane rods were dead. Likewise Dust wipers. Heres the issue: - Elasto’s, Size 26mm dia= either buy from a manufacturer that makes some in correct diameter and hardness but expensive, or buy cheap hard ones that...

Kl, just looked it up. Shame they didn’t drill a tiny hole in the stays to let the water I can hear, swishing about, come out!

Another frame identification.French bike purchase or UK?

Can anyone ID this bottom bracket? First thought was MAVIC or stronglight. No markings. 6 pins on one side of the cup and the other 4 pins. Now, even more odd, the 6 pin side has 3 allen (2mm) bolts. My guess is some kind of bottom bracket used to repair stripped threads. Possibly the threading...
