    boy"O"boy's 1989 Kestrel MXZ

Nice! Back in 1989 and still now, it looks like a bike from the future.

    Jimbog’s 92 Roberts D.O.G.S B.O.L.X build

coming together nicely. I tried the gun blue on an XT seatpost. First couple of applications didn’t make a huge difference - I think I need to give it a few more coatings.

Early Bontrager OR 91 Complete bike

To build that would cost at least gbp1,500? It’s a premium and rare frame with the right forks and stem, ready to ride with top components. I guess price depends on finding the right buyer - someone who really wants a Bontrager in that size.

Chain for Marin Bear Valley (1992 ish?)

I use KMC X8 on my early 90’s bikes. Top quality and they have a quick link, which is much better than the Shimano link. Means you can easily remove and refit them for cleaning.

Kona Explosif with Pace forks - £40

1991 Some nice parts on that. Worth 40 quid!

    '89 Orange Clockwork

Coming along nicely. That middle chain ring looks very worn? If you will be riding this I would fit a replacement.

    Spotted on the street

I’d be using some better locks if that was mine 😀

    Day-Glo! E-Stays! U-Brake!

I always thought it was weird how these have a reverse sloping top tube

    Day-Glo! E-Stays! U-Brake!

It’s like early 90’s MTB bingo - this one has it all !

    Zinn / Campagnolo - £30 - Edinburgh

Wow, that’s pennies. Amazing how over the course of 30+ years a boutique high-end bike can end up as a 30 quid sell off.

    1988 Brodie Climbmax Fillet Brazed

Hi Roy , is this the era of Suntour group set before they launched the XC series? I am a big fan of Suntour but am not so familiar with the 80’s range. How did you fix the brake pads in the end - looks like you would need a very narrow spanner?

    Anti-theft parts bin sh*tter.

That’s a bummer about the theives. A while ago I put together a similar rig - early 90’s steel frame that I spray painted with hammerite. Threw the parts bin at it. And… it turned out to be one of my favourite bikes. Never had to worry about it getting damaged, and could leave it anywhere.
