    Food of Champions...

Ahhh, "Cheesey Beanos". A mind boggling combo that became a Cooncil Hoose delicacy. Before a ride out though? I'd have slipped into a food coma by the time I'd burled my pedal toe clip the right way up!

    Food of Champions...

There are so many gels and snacky "Clif" type bars around these days that taking sustenance on a ride is a doddle. The traditional banana aside (a beacon for Wasps in my experience) my go to scran in the Carradice seat bag was... A flask of sugary tea and tin foil wrapped cheese and jam...

    MacRetro Newbies.... Introduce yourself here:

Hahahaha a boat anchor! What picture that paints 😂 Thanks for the welcome folks. I can't wait to get out properly. I must admit, the smell of the 3-in-1 oil, the pong of the rubber and the stained fingers from working on the old steel steeds has brought all the excitement back. I live at the...

Wow!!! That looks braw! And it has normal rear forks unlike the wishbone contraption mine has. That's an absolute steal, nice one!

Hi Jimo746, I've tinkered with bikes for years, learning the long way by getting it wrong the first time, what a difference those vids on "Ya Choob" make! Going to refurb my Apollo bit by bit. The geometry fits me and having used it so often it's handling is second nature to me. There are...

    MacRetro Newbies.... Introduce yourself here:

Hi folks. Getting my arse back in the saddle after a 12 year gap. I used to spend my spare time doing Jujutsu and biking and hiking in the cuds until contracting Lymes disease. It's been a long road back but I'm lucky, most folk end up in a wheelchair. Last year's Covid was the icing on the...

Medmal, Same with the front forks on mine. I'm not sure if they're actually "seized" though? I think its more likely that they never actually went up and down in the first place lol. Dunno?

This is the elastomer rear shock. It's rock hard. The only thing stretching here is the claim that it's a shock absorber. There's a bolt through the middle of it and that worries me. That's probably where the rear forks would have a catastrophic failure. Hmmm...

As requested... With a bit of tough love earlier I actually got my old faithful Apollo going. Its now a "project". This is the infamous Activator. I'll use this as a runaround with a large paper bag and helmet on. I adjusted the seat and had a go up and down the street. It was OK, responsive...

I was actually thinking of that. I googled it, as you do, and saw the horrendous rep it had. I never expected that lol. Its in great nick so I might as well. Gift horse and all that If I'm honest, I've never had a comfy, suspension forks, light bike in my life so I might as well. The...

New member here, hi folks. I've a question for you retro gurus. Recovering from a year of long Covid, I'm slowly getting back to health so will be easing back into cycling after 12 years out of the saddle. I went to get my old Raleigh Apollo (clunky but never let me down) which was stored in...
