    My First Modest Refurb. ..Finnished.

It doesn't look too bad in the before pics,.. but, seat tube was too small, it had been shimmed, bars were heavy steel with STI levers that had never been connected, crank pedal thread stripped, tyres perished, paintwork chipped and scratched. As I said, I think someone stripped all the SR...

    My First Modest Refurb. ..Finnished.

I found this in a second hand shop for £35. Little did I know what I was taking on. Never done a refurb of vitage bike before, drums yes, bikes no. Been out of cycling for 40yrs so had little knowledge of bike mechanics, but I have now. :o Its a mid 80s Dave Lloyd (Argos Cycles) 753R...

    Gear Cable Routing

No cables on this bike when I bought it so just about to fit some. Downtube friction shifters. Front mech....that's just an inner down to bottom bracket guides and up to mech ?. What about the guides ?, does anything go on them to protect cable. Rear mech, Shimano 600 EX, just inner to BB...

    Shimano Rear Mech Problem.

Continuing my modest refurb.......Noticed the 600 long cage rear mech top pivot spring tension was very weak, so unbolted it and found that the spring was dislodged caused by a missing circlip that fits on the end of the mounting bolt holding it all together. Been to 2 LBSs and have been...

    Taping bars.

What I did at the ends was to cut the tape (white) flush with a razor blade {as I read somewhere) then a few tight turns with some nice white electrical tape then the plugs, they look much neater than just shoving the plugs in. Pete.

    Taping bars.

Just going to re-tape my bars. Done a bit research, Park tools, youtube etc, and they all recomend starting at the bar ends and finnishing at the top, necessitating some insulation type tape to finnish it off. From what I can remember many moons ago we used to start at the top and finnish at...

    What Tyres

Thanks Senri. I was thinking that, like car tyres you can go a bit wider. The roads round here are a bit rough so wider will help alot.

    What Tyres

Continuing with the modest refurb of my Dave Lloyd, the tyres are perished so will need new ones. At the moment they are Hutchinson Kevlar 700 x 20.0 .They look super skinny, will I have to replace them with the same width. The wheels are Mavic MA 40. Any recomendations. Pete.

best way of stripping paint off a frame

I recently stripped my David Lloyd steel frame with nitromors, it was good for the varnish and top coat but would not shift the primer, had to resort to sandpaper and elbow grease. Pete.

    What size BB

Bearing surfaces worn so need a new one. Ita an old Tange, JIS square taper, standard 86mm, but I can't decide on the overall lenth. wWithout the ue of calipers, (which I haven't got as I'm Billy-no-mates as far as bikers are concerned), :( its either 122mm, 122 1/2mm or 123mm. So is 1mm...

Campy wheel in all Shimano bike

Thanks Jim, I'm not much of an expert in these matters but I have just had a look at the rear mech and it has 2 threaded stops with plenty of ajustment left as they are set up at the moment, for the old 6 speed I presume. Pete.
