Fitting Kona P2s for first time - any top tips?

Hey, thanks a lot for the quick answers. Ah that must be it then, the frame is an old Specialized Rockhopper circa '95. I guess it is for 1" forks - knackers. Not too worry, I shouldn't have problem getting rid of these P2s as they are brand new and still in their packaging. I might even...

Fitting Kona P2s for first time - any top tips?

Aha, good you ask. I just disassembled. It seems I have a few "challenges" ahead. This is the first time I've had a go at changing forks. Forgive me if I get my part names in a muddle or ask dumb Qs. Challenge number 1 The old forks are threaded the new ones are not. Is it possible to...

Fitting Kona P2s for first time - any top tips?

Great stuff, thanks guys :) Actually, I don't mind having the bars higher up - at the moment I have bars that are slightly rising for comfort but would prefer flat bars. This would allow me to do that. Glad to hear that it's not a major job - especially after my BB ordeal!

Fitting Kona P2s for first time - any top tips?

Hi I'm slowly but surely renovating my old specialized rockhopper. Next step is to remove the nasty generic suspension forks I had fitted a few years back and replace with some nice P2's I picked up on ebay. I've never done such a thing before. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I...

Ooops my bad, a typo - it is a 95. I worked all summer in a sports shop to save up for it when I was a youngun.

Cannot remove BB from 95 Rockhopper

Thanks for the French tips! Turned out the guy in the shop spoke English, so my rehearsed phrase was not needed. I showed him le boitier and he popped out the back and came out 10 minutes later with the bike in one hand and what was left of le boitier in the other :) He didn't charge me...

Cannot remove BB from 95 Rockhopper

Argh, had another bash at it tonight, still no joy :( It soaked in WD40 for 2 days, then put a 3 foot metal pipe over my spanner handle. Ended up turning the spanner on the BB socket tool and rounding off the hexagon into a circle! I'd swear this thing has become part of the bike. I'm in...

Cannot remove BB from 95 Rockhopper

Thanks for all the tips. First I'm gonna bath this little fella in WD40 for a few days. Then borrow a big ass spanner and a g-clamp from my neighbour with a shed load of tools and have another crack at it. Then if it doesn't work I will return to neighbour and see if he or his pops has a...

Cannot remove BB from 95 Rockhopper

Cool thanks, will try the WD40 first, failing that I'll be happy to torch the little f*cker! Unfortunately, I don't have a bench vice, so may have to drop by my friendly neighborhood bike repair shop. Don't mind scorching the paint as I plan to get the whole thing powder coated soon.

Cannot remove BB from 95 Rockhopper

I need advice! I've been giving my 85 Specialized Rockhopper an overhaul. All is going well except... The BB is grinding like hell so I want to replace with a new one. I bought a suitable BB tool but cannot get the damn thing out. On the non chain side I put in my BB tool and tried to...
