mate it is jusst a bit of raod grim, there is no damage to the fork. They are not that dirty, but i think they picture has not shown them in the best light. Given a good clean they would look great

i would proceed with caution when adapting a frame that was not originally designed to run with discs. I had a 2002 stumpjumper that had disc mounts and that cracked where mounted to the seat stay. Not a major issue as the frame was replaced by Specialized with a new 2007 frame, this frame and...

the reason why they have painted it is probably to help prtect agaist stone chips. If you leave naked and not pit lacquer on it the problem is not just discolouration, but the carbon weve if scratched can weaken significantly, hence the piant would protect the lower seat tube from stones
