The best posts here have pics which do more than words can to give a real sense of the ride -- but today, there was no stopping for pics. It was drizzling on and off with a strong gusty wind; when the curtains of drizzle parted, there would be bright sunshine for 10 minutes or so before the next...

If you're keen on measuring your HR throughout the day, it would be better not to have a monitor that requires a chest strap. Newer models don't need one and are more practical for all-day use.

Not sure which is superior but suspect the later versions would incorporate more development and user feedback. But if you want to be period-correct, your decision will depend on the date of the frame. And if you want to use cantis (suggesting a pre V-brake frame), then the earlier version would...
