I have an Ermanno Moser fork and chainring; but no frame as of yet. Got plenty of bikes from the other Moser family though.

The 1970 roadster dressed for Halloween a couple weeks ago (unfortunately my skull H2O bottle was 1200 miles away) for a ride around Devils Tower pre-dawn.

    Yes!

    Super Vitus 980 tubing

Have used a 980 frame before, but small (52cm x 54cm; c-c) frame and small rider (145 lbs). I think 980 is thinner than Columbus SL, and I could flex my 57cm SL frame; my smaller SL frame is much stiffer. If I was 25 lbs or more heavier and/or stronger I would opt for a different frame; but...

1986 Batavus Criterium I just got this a couple months ago, barely finished rebuild 2 weeks ago (still 10% unfinished due to component change), used as a hill climber to train for Mt. climb and used for that same climb (successful), crashed at VERY LOW SPEED (<5mph), and frame retired due to...

Pretty interesting vote spread. Not as lopsided as I thought. I think in keeping with the Olympic scoring "fairness and accuracy" we will need to toss out the lowest score and highest score. Sorry @Tomianson your medal has been stripped away and awarded to @satkin55 . Congratulations on your win!

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

I am only 140 lbs, so I hope I am safe on my 531SL frame since I am the second owner.

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

@Mr Weirdo I thought that 653 (mixed grade tubeset) was less durable than a 531Pro set. I assume it would depend on other factors determining your selection (condition, size, parts).

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

I work on plenty of "older technology" utilzed well before I was born. I can understand if it was complicated, but all it takes is a couple of minutes to troubleshoot a problem like that. If a "mechanic" has a modicum of mechanical insight that problem would be quite evident and easy to resolve...

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

@hamster glad someone brought that up. I was getting ready to ask if the unit had been refit or not since I kbew it could be mis-mounted. @Mr Weirdo Believe me, many younger bike shop "mechanics" are not aware of older systems and often do not check things thoroughly. even when something is...

Thanks for the info! Much better than my "hill" bike which only has 38x23 for the lowest gear. I can no longer climb the mountain with that gear; arthritis in one hip kills me. I'm okay for very short climbes but more than 1/4 mile of steep gradient is punishment. Walked my bike up most of the...

@pwebb Great looking bike! Loved your build thread. What is the rear cluster tooth count per cog. Front looks 50/34? (Bad eyes, cannot make out ring stamp). It looks like great gearing for an old guy like myself who needs some help climbing the steep hills. I still have an NOS Veloce triple I...

'87 Nishiki Linear that I purchased from a friend who could not ride it due to a bad back. I can still hunker down and get it rolling. I bought as is except swapped out the 55t ring for the 53t I got in the deal. No climbing gears on this one so perfect for the area I live in. Sorry for poor...

The year should be correct. I believe '88 was the first year they were made. Note: they had issues with breaking, not sure of the circumstances surrounding the problem. One problem nowadays even with more "modern" (20 to 25 yrs old) CF frames is delamination. One would think older CF frames...

    Fitting bar tape

One of my bikes prior to the previous owner modifying it. "Open cell" foam tubing. I think it was as old as the bike!

    Fitting bar tape

Very good points all around! I still like cloth tape for looks and feel on my old bikes (pre-mid 80s), but I also like a bit of cushion so I have done this a couple times which worked well both in looks, comfort, and durability. I put 2 very thin lines of contact cement/glue on the bar with a...

    Olmo Columbus Air?

Unfortunately, bigger builders did custom shape tubes quite regularly. Rossin being one (I own examples of this), and the quote provided to me is directly from a builder who was custom shaping fork blades to fit their needs (I wonder what decals, if any, were used). It happens! It is much easier...
