    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

His 'n' Hers.... - A couple of weeks ago we decided to head for the south of France to find some sunshine - as per usual I checked online to see if there was anything interesting for sale enroute and around the region we were visiting. I came across a 6 month old advert for 2 bikes - described...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Although not really vintage - this JP Routens Grand Chemin from 1994 is 30 years old. Built with Columbus Thron with mainly Campag groupset it will be used by my better half for camping / touring. She's not keen on the drop bars so will be changing them to butterfly bars - not original but more...

    Eddy Merckx Corsa 01

Hi all, I just bought this 1994 Merckx Corsa 01 - it wasn't far away and the price was interesting. It's not in too bad a condition but I'll probably change most of the components on it - the exage headset is totally shot, the brakes and chainset are 80's campag record, Shimano 600 brifters...

    Code of the road.

Out yesterday morning (in Brittany, France) we passed several solitary riders and small groups - had an hello and wave from them all. It's normally just the youngsters who don't acknowledge us old gits!

    Vitus?

I can't help BUT I have a similar frame which I have been trying to identify for some time - your frame is older, looking at the rear dropouts. Mine has a Vitus 992 ali fork and headset in a semi-integrated headtube. Badged as a mid 90's Wilier. Very nice light steel frame - it probably isn't a...

    Vitus 992 chainstay lug repair...

Hi All, I just bought this Vitus 992 - the epoxy glue on the chain stay lug has failed - I really only bought it for parts (Vitus headset, Campag Record brifters. etc) but frankly it seems a damn shame to consign it to the tip as it's in pretty good condition otherwise. What are the chances of...

    90's Steel Wilier - Possibly?

Hi all, Just picked this up and I'm now wondering if it's a real Wilier - I haven't seen another one with a flared head tube - it has Vitus 992 forks and Vitus headset. Threading is BSA. Most of group is Campag Chorus 8 speed (around 95/96) and Shimano BB is dated 1994 - so about right for the...

Older Lyonaisse Artwork Aluminium tube muffed - C.M.P. Dural "Gottfried"

Hi Gridno, I used to own a CMP - I'm sure the cable guides are epoxy glued on, as are the guides on the top tube. Just re-glue. How many people are looking more in the background than the frame in question!!

    Early 90's French Criterium..

Just picked up this early 90's race bike made by AJP from Paris. Tubing is Reynolds 708 classic with full Shimano 600 Tricolor. I've had a few bikes pass through my hands (probably 40 to 50) I buy 'em, fettle 'em, ride 'em and if I get on with them I keep them - there aren't many that pass the...

Little known French gem - Late 80's POELAERT

I did indeed find it in France - in Brittany. Condition is really good , however, there are a few paint chips / scratches which are mainly from storage.

    Maillard 6 dog freewheel tool

Hi Tony, Can't help you with the freewheel problem! - but on a different point I noticed that you have or have had a Vitus Gti framed Gitane - how did you find it ride wise (I've got a chance to buy a Bertin with the same tubes.). Cheers Dave

Little known French gem - Late 80's POELAERT

Here's my latest find - I saw this and thought it looked interesting - I've never heard of the maker Raymond Poelaert - apparently he was an apprentice of the great Rene Herse and later his daughter Lily. He was based in the Paris area. Based on the date code on the Campag chainset (51) it will...

    Not your average barn find..

I would love to keep the mavic derailleur but I'm not sure I would be able to make the necessary changes to make it work for me - I'm going to take the cowards way out and find a Shimano 600 Arabesque to go with the chainset and front derailleur. But don't worry the mavic will find its way onto...

    Not your average barn find..

Pigman - (Chainset and front mech look like Shimano 600 arabesque. I don't think the mavic rear mech will handle a 28T or bigger sprocket before the upper jockey fouls the cog). You're right on both counts - I've just put in a wheel with 26T big sprocket and it's still fouling the jockey wheel...

    Not your average barn find..

Hi all, thought I would share my latest find with you - I saw this advertised not too far away, and I've always fancied a Vitus 979, but finding a larger frame is quite hard - at 58cm this is perfect for me. Anyway, went to look at it - a retired farmer bought it new in the early 90's - he...

    Race number hanger..

Thanks Kermisking & Danson67 - I've sent ceeway an email - so hopefully I'll be sorted.

    Race number hanger..

Hi all, I've just bought a late 80's road bike and after getting it home I have found that there used to be a race number hanger on the underside of the top tube. It is going to be resprayed so thought I would replace it. I've searched all over the net (with no success) to find a replacement...

    Fork Identification...

Hi, Thanks for that - quite a long list! I'll trawl thru them and see what I can find.

    Fork Identification...

I should have mentioned that the fork ends are Campag - hard to see as they've been drilled!
