Electronic Groupsets.....good idea or utterly pointless for most people ?

Love it! Absolutely love it! I say to myself EVERY day - i wish they would hurry up and introduce a GPS controlled brake 'standard'. That way i wouldn't even need those wretched lever things on my handlebars - because the GPS would know when i was going too fast - and apply just the right amount...

Electronic Groupsets.....good idea or utterly pointless for most people ?

In case i seemed cynical in my previous post..... Here is an example of marketing: 'MORE PRECISE SHIFTING' My XTR 952 group - i press the little lever with my thumb - the chain skips onto the next sprocket. I pull the little lever with my finger - the chain skips onto the next sprocket. It...

Any chrome? removal experts? Or 'how do i get this stuff off please'?

Currently in discussions with a chrome expert. Chemicals (DIY) are out - as has rightly been pointed out - very high probability of 'eating' the spider. Powder coating is out - (at least not until the chrome has been removed) as several powder coaters have stated that they deal with chromed...

Electronic Groupsets.....good idea or utterly pointless for most people ?

Utterly pointless. Research and Development they say. Marketing i say. Another component that will have zero obsolescence built in. Meaning your 'state of the art' groupset will become obsolete in a years time - when a new state of the art version replaces it. And you would be FOOLISH not to buy...

Any chrome? removal experts? Or 'how do i get this stuff off please'?

Ah.....ok. Although that might be easier said than done. I'll report back if i manage to get them blasted/painted/powder coated.

Any chrome? removal experts? Or 'how do i get this stuff off please'?

I think some replies came in when i was replying..... To address a couple of them: Yes, black or possibly red is my intention. Have i missed something? Or is the point of owning a RETRO bike - NOT to buy new cranks? Having said that - if anyone has a set of these for sale? Bontrager - Carbon -...

Any chrome? removal experts? Or 'how do i get this stuff off please'?

Awesome replies - thankyou. I read somewhere on Google that bleach would do it. It (the bleach) looked like it acted the same as oven cleaner..... But, frankly i lost my nerve after 5 minutes and gave the spider a good rinse. 5 minutes in bleach didn't touch the chrome. The problem i have is...

Any chrome? removal experts? Or 'how do i get this stuff off please'?

The removable spider from my cranks is starting to look tatty, so a refresh is in order. I'm not exactly sure what is covering the aluminium, but it 'feels' like chrome to me. In attempting to remove it (i keyed the surface) i have tried - and failed completely with: 1 - paint stripper - didn't...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Thanks rikster - much appreciated. Yes, those are the exact cranks and that is the recommended BB. It seems there are other options though - so some trial and error might be in order. The 8000's (new) are about £45 now - given price hikes recently, i suppose that's not too bad..... Except it is...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Very good point - very well made Synchronicity. And we shrug our shoulders, say nothing, smile and hand our money over uncomplainingly🤷‍♂️ C'est La Vie:)

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Many thanks for these replies. Thanks Synchronicity - that's a good find - that BB will work with my cranks. One of the points i made to FSA - and demonstrated very well here by Jonnyboy666 and Nicklej..... Is that the fact that a lot of people are prepared to use someone else's (Shimano in this...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Replacing the bearings without replacing the cups sounds excellent - thanks for the tip. I just don't think it should be so difficult. Let's say i replaced the SLK cranks with GXP 15? years ago (having got fed up with this whole FSA thing). Since then, i've used Truvativ, Sram and Bontrager GXP...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Several days later..... Many hours consulting previous posts on numerous forums and contacting FSA directly reveal that: 1 - A common theme is the 'mystery' of FSA BB/Crank compatibility. 2 - FSA continue the mysterious theme with numerous, contradictory 'compatibility charts' - none of which...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Many thanks for the replies. Yes, that colour (of the cups) is just.....weird - weird enough not to want to buy one of the damn things anyway. No, i haven't bought a BB yet - i'm still trying to establish if there are any options (see above). Thanks novocaine! FSA wouldn't design a crank and or...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

Thanks ever so much for the reply. Yes - that's the exact little buggers! 24mm spindle, self extracting NDS. I used them until the BB got crunchy, then replaced them with a compact GXP double. I recall i got frustrated because i understand that there are different BB standards, but FSA take it...

FSA Bottom Bracket - are they all different - help please!

I'm revisiting an old problem..... I have some FSA SLK Road Carbon Triple cranks with a self extracting bolt - going into a 68mm shell. There appears (to me at least) to be a bewildering array of MegaExo bottom brackets. Which is why i haven't fitted the triple for years - just easier to stick...

Giant SCR OCR headset replacement - advice sought

Hmmm.....there is a 'correct' tool for that..... But i use a piece of wooden dowel and a mallet (maybe don't try this at home)..... If they used anti-seize, copper slip, grease etc when they installed the cups, they should pop out with some gentle persuasion. If they didn't - it can get a bit...

Giant SCR OCR headset replacement - advice sought

Glad it helped. Further, if you do buy a headset and you just wanted to replace the bearings at some point..... If you put the exact markings from the bearings into a search engine, they are available to buy seperately in the UK. Mine are in the frame, otherwise i would list them here. I will...
