    Peeling lacquer/clear coat

There’s a lot of discussion of using clear coat - eg the BTR site. They no longer offer it. It’s basically a nightmare of non-adherence. And spider trails, opaque patches are a curse with clear coat…sorry. But it’s a losing battle - I have nickel coated Oranges with clear coat and we just live...

    White porcs

1994 - I’m a bit of a mess after becoming a widower at 36. I have left a White Porc in the garden after some repairs. I eventually throw it in the bin after finding it green and manky six months’ later - it’s just a tyre, right? 1996 - I build a bike for someone and hell, whack the remaining...

    Educate me on U Brakes

Important reason for chainstay mount is (shouty voice) … POWER!!!!! I had a wonderful Marin ti 1991 - raw, Litespeed - with a seat stay mounted U brake. Much power … then bowed out the stays. On my 89 Marin Palisades with chainstay mounted U brake the rigidity of that area of the frame means no...

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Can I just add H E A D A N G L E I build contemporary hardtails where we frown in the face of 71 deg head angles and use 63 deg unsagged frames but often add further slackness with anglesets - unsagged 62 or less. This wee b+++er has a HA of near enough 90 degrees. Absolutely terrifying.

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

ah.....we have a combined-use pathway alongside a guided busway in Cambridge. After a colleague was killed after user interactions, falling into the path of a bus, I did a rigorous survey of users. Single adult pedestrians Single youth pedestrians Grouped adult pedestrians Grouped youth...

Sorry I was slow in the singletrack - my bike just caught fire…

It’s an old joke. But regrettably a reality of modern mountain biking. Read the comments….argh A tiny tiny refund? And a 50lb bike which now just sits there. Yikes. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/canyon-offer-partial-refund-to-owners-of-emtbs-affected-by-battery-safety-issues.html

Some impartial advice please : sold home, buyer being an arse

A self-focussed self-righteous take on buying a house. I hope your solicitors tell them to get real. I thought they might be more upset that you bricked up the only entrance to the garage? How did you escape? Do do de do do, do do de do do.....(Great Escape Theme).

Oh I have gone all saggy ....

Sorry I put it in strange words. If you change the angle, a given length will be lifted slightly higher at the base end, thus effectively reducing VERTICAL travel but not the ACTUAL travel of the forks. Comme sa

The little things which make life better....

Ah .... that's interesting re CK - I read the 'not user serviceable' and looked hard at specific CK headsets I have had and have been tempted to dive in, but have worried about size of replacement bearing etc. You are more enterprising than me. And interesting re Merlins - boy those must have...

Thanks....leg definitely extended...The side load issue is an interesting one. You can readily add too much sideload to crank bearings eg Hope and munch through bearings at a hell of a rate. Good reminder...
