Haha, you are nothing if not consistent, sir! For interest I've attempted to add a photo whilst out and about on an "early" morning ride. I love this view of the Abbey at Elstow, just south of Bedford. Perhaps my favourite thing though is the Festival of Britain logo on the village sign, the...

Re: Finally back in the saddle after a few weeks away after falling off. Still a bit to do to get it fully serviceable including the Reynolds Elite chain, rear lamp and mudguard stays (still!). Thanks Craigmount for the nuts and bolts, they fitted a treat and the mudguards are rattle free! I'm...

Drinking on the move, 1940s/50s style?

Re: Old Ned, thanks for chipping in! Honestly I suppose that's what I was expecting given that provision for frame mounted bottles wasn't as standard. Regarding "the look" for my current ride, I think I'll stick a bottle of pop in a saddle bag and stop for a swig when the occasion calls.

Success! Congrats and thanks. I know what to look for now. I much appreciate your kind offer of sending the mudguard stay fixings. Do let me know what you'd like for them :)

1961 Claud Butler Super Coureur #9081 (Entente cordiale)

Re: Interesting, I shall keep that in mind for future reference. Thanks! I agree, enamels must be the way forward. I've tried using acrylics and they don't behave well in my experience on a non-porous surface unless it's totally oil/grease free, which is not all that practical!

1961 Claud Butler Super Coureur #9081 (Entente cordiale)

Re: The painted parts are looking really smart! What paints are you using? The red looks like a standard Humbrol type enamel but the blue has a metallic look to it.

Re: Put a few miles on the Lenton over the past couple of weeks, 45 miles or so in short rides before work to avoid the heat. The replacement Renold Elite chain has arrived but remains unfitted. I've also ordered some new mudguard stays to sort out the alignment of the rear, especially. I...

1952 Claud Butler Massed Start #522513 (skip find)

Re: That's quite some queue! Are you planning on keeping us updated with them all? I'm interested to see the surface finish after dipping, treating and priming. In some areas the rust looks like it's taken hold (I'm no expert!) so look forward to seeing how it turns out :) It may prove to be...

1952 Claud Butler Massed Start #522513 (skip find)

Re: Nice find! Who doesn't appreciate a decent skip find? Interested to see how it cleans up, the pitting looks pretty deep in a few places. I'm sure you'll do your usual cracking job of course!

Drinking on the move, 1940s/50s style?

Re: Thanks for the tips! Those bottles all look champion. Would these bottles (and the associated cages/brackets) be used by all cyclists, including the 15/20mile a trip average cyclist, or just by the big boys? I suppose i'm interested in knowing why a 1950s bike makes no evident provision...

Drinking on the move, 1940s/50s style?

Another newbie / noddy question for you (I hope it's not getting too annoying  haha) If you were riding, for example, a Raleigh Lenton (other makes and models may be available) in the early 1950s, how would you go about rehydrating whilst you were out and about? Is it a case of...

Good to hear from you. The spec is pretty original I think. A few of the bits are replacements (including the mudguards and front lamp... and obviously the BB spindle!) but they're all period correct as far as I'm aware. I'm still looking for a few original parts, including a pump and rear lamp...

TJ QUICK mid to late 1950's Frame

A handsome bike, I like seeing lugs picked out in this way. I'm no expert but if the bracket you refer to is the same that can be seen in the photo then it does look similar to the thing braised onto my Pashley Roadster for reacting the torque from the rear hub brake. Cheers, Jack

Lovely looking bikes their, love that primrose / custard yellow paint colour especially :) Interesting to hear about the rust treatment method, it sounds easy and achievable!

Re: Thanks for holding off on the bidding, it was obviously my lucky day! Anything in particular to look out for with the hub, from your experience? I'd planned to leave it alone as it seems to be working alright so far. Cheers, Jack
