Am I so out of touch with modern cycling?

I totally fit in with the modern cycling crowd!

    Getting rid of a mouse

Bait the traps with what it has been eating in /near the house and attempt to remove the primary food source. Rodents are habitual and timid of nuance.

Ti for things … like pedal axles.

I love Ti parts. It's a great way to put the bike on a diet. The amount of weight that can be shed from swapping fasteners and spindles is staggering. Put every steel bolt and spindle from a bike in a bag and throw it on a scale, reduce that by 50% for Ti equivalent and that's a significant...

    Is my stem straight . . .?

With my aging and increasingly more crooked aching body, I find it impossible to physically detect any misalignments in the bike. I frequently see it, but I can't feel it.

    1x10 cassette options

RD-M786 rear derailleur SL-T8000-R shifter CS-M4100 cassette Maybe a derailleur hanger extender, depending on the frame Also this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0879GXTJK/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=A3652ZBQ53FUEE&psc=1 Keep in mind the big cassette will require an extra long cage...

    Anodising and RTS frame?

I’d love to see a turquoise RTS! The quality of finish will be dependent on the prep of the substrate. Anodizing and dye are separate processes. Gloss vs frost is a result of how the aluminum is prepped prior to anodizing. A superb high gloss finish will always be hard to achieve...

Any good recommendations for paint stripper for older paint

It looks as though it was chromed followed by some heavy pitting, followed by paint. Judging from the photos, the frame looks reasonably sound. In the event that you are willing, it would be worthwhile to strip the frame down and fill the pits. Sand blast would likely be the most effective...

Help please - Aluminium GT serial numbers

Ok - I'll buy that. In the build thread it was suggested to be a '98 as that was the first year of the integrated seatpost clamp, so it was assumed to be a '98. I clearly know nothing about serial number designations. Both bikes were re-painted, so that makes ID-by-color impossible.

Help please - Aluminium GT serial numbers

My son's alloy unknown. Maybe a Tempest, Avalanche, Aggressor, or Pantera. Presumably a '98. This one is pretty obvious.

Forks for a GT lightning build?

The forks that are truly synonymous with GT's of that era are Rock Shox or GT bologna.

    Marin Team Titanium 1995 Presentation

Beauty! A Manitou 3 or 4 on a Marin is so perfect, and with the XTR and White Industries parts that is a poster bike. Stunning, dude.

    Bar ends yay or nay?

At a time when narrow handlebars were popular, bar ends allowed the rider to gain back some leverage on the bars to use a stronger muscle group for climbing. I still think bar ends and brake boosters are hella cool. Notsomuch tie-dye or neon shoe laces, but it’s an indicator of an “enthusiast”.

Shimano Parallax - what does it mean?

The trend at that time was a large hub body, straying away from the traditional hyperbola, to add strength and rigidity for suspension forks….a fat hub body that runs parallel to the axle. I vaguely remember reading this in Mountain Bike Action 30 years ago. I can’t remember what I had for...
