I'm 5 11 but it should extend a bit. the standover height of the rear is the crucial thing. if you could measure the ground to top of top tube that'd be brilliant.
I gave up night riding after waking up while descending Shap Fell at about 2.30am during a 600km event. was so wired by the experience I couldn't sleep at all for the next 14 hours until i'd got home on the train.
i find that when i'm riding those distances km are easier to divide into manageable blocks in my head, and constant conversion keeps me sane as you enter the 13th or 14th hour of riding!
Re: 1952 Hill Special Path Racer
had a Hill Special rescued from wrecked (I suspect a canal!)and rode it as fixed for years until the frame finally gave up the ghost. Now got another 1949 lugged not welded this time and just waiting for dry weather.
I've found that tight fit tyres esp. small diameters eased by warming/heating the tyre against a radiator before fitting to a cold rim. works on the old moulton 17"rims which were evil
And the lotus version was very "draggy" by the standard of mikes later variations...!
Don't know if you've seen the Tony hadland book on burrows but it's a fantastic insight into design.
The reason carbon frames are made the same shape as steel tubed ones is to do with the regulations not maximizing the properties of the material. Mike Burrows frames from the early 90s showed what You can do with aerodynamics in an rider upright position of not constrained by the regs brought in...
