Hi Speedthing, You are correct in saying the RGF bottom bracket shell is French. They were used by most of the top builders as being the best quality/lightest available at the time. Raliegh SBDU used them. The lugs look like Haden Soveriegn which were manufactured in Birmingham, I believe, but...

How do you finish a frame of unknown origin?

Hi Kipperthedog, Sorry for being so dumb, but you did which? Had it finished in a shop livery or put you name on it? Steve

How do you finish a frame of unknown origin?

Hi Kell, Nice idea, if all else fails. I lean to the idea of building it up in shop livery and calling it a "Cy clone" or "tribute" and also put a decal under the downtube stating "builder/material unknown", or something similar. I am deternined to find out what it is though :) Steve

How do you finish a frame of unknown origin?

Hi, I have a nice, light well built frame, unfortunately I can't find out who built or supplied it...see my other thread "Another newbie playing the Name my Frame game" for details. While I have every intention of repainting and building up the bike, but I hate to see a frame without a full...

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated. I think that Shaun's initial assessment was correct, that it is a nice frame built for a shop to supply, therefore I will probably never find out who built it. The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is frame weight. I have looked at probably 100's...

The paint was stripped off with "Easy Strip", bought it off eBay supposed to be 10x stronger than Nitromors, pretty nasty stuff. By painting on and then quickly/gently scrapping the paint I was able to remove the paint 1 layer at a time, to see what was underneath. Layers - Red, Primer, Red...

It would be nice if it was a Harry Quinn or a Quinn Brothers frame. I used to ride to their shops as a kid back in the 70's. It was reminiscing about those times that got me into retro bikes. Steve

Thanks, every bit of info helps. As I said I had the front derailleur hanger added to cover/strengthen a dent in the tube. Time wise that's what I was thinking. Steve

Hi all, I've been lurking , sorry researching, on the forum for a while now, but this is my first post. I am trying to identify the manufacturer/builder of a frame I recently bought and am hoping that the collective knowledge of the forum may be able to help. The bike was sold as a Raleigh...
