That's really good - great idea and execution.

    1985 Raleigh Competition

Great to see another one getting a new lease of life! The only other '85 one I've seen was a very sorry looking one at the Eroica Britannia. As for the question about the forks, I don't have an honest answer for you - I've just put some clear nail varnish over the spots on mine, but that's on...

    Peugeot Competition 3000 - commuter

I picked this up last month for £60 from ebay. The columbus Thron frame attracted me to it, and I needed to replace my late 80s MTB commuter. Various things had been replaced by older parts, the original brifters had been replaced with down tube shifters and none of the drive train or wheels...

    STI Brifters (others considered)

Hi, Ideally looking for a set of cheap RSX 2x7 speed brifters, but will consider anything especially 9 speed (I've got plenty of various wheels, freewheels and cassettes to use) It's for a commuter so as long as they work, condition isn't important. Thanks Jim

    How old is my Peugeot?

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread - just bought one of these in this colour and struggled to date it. Mine's missing the STI brifters and has levers on the downtube, which didn't help either!

    1985 Raleigh Competition

Thanks again everyone! Didn't expect such a positive response! Thanks for the link to the bar tape, I'll grab some for when the inevitable happens and the white gets dirty! As for the chain stay protector, I paid the princely sum of £2.50 inc P&P from ebay! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251632838553?

    1985 Raleigh Competition

Thanks for the replies and kind words everyone! The respray was done by an Isle of Wight blaster and painter who is used to working with rarer steel bike frames who came recommended by several people http://www.solentblasters.com/ Here's a photo of the stays before the work started.

    1985 Raleigh Competition

This is my first complete restoration project, although I've been taking tools to bikes for as long as I could ride one. The bike was in a bit of state when I bought it, so it's had a strip and colour matched respray, replacement headset, BB, chainrings, freewheel, cables, pads, saddle, tyres...

    Wanted - 144 BCD 3/32" Chainrings 52 and 42

Morning all, I require a pair of good condition 144 BCD silver chainrings for a 1985 Sugino GS crank from a Raleigh Competition in 52 and 42 tooth. Am looking on ebay, but thought someone may have some for sale here too. Or even a source for new ones - all the new ones I can find are 1/8"...
