Triple S chains - any good?

Anyone any experience with Triple S chains? I quite like to look of their Gold/Black chain for my Raleigh Record Sprint - but not if they are made of cheese (alternative is all Gold KMC for a couple of £s more). Steve

    Raleigh Record Sprint Crankset

Re: Re: Thanks, but no good - that's the 1983 spec 130bcd 'flexible' one - which is what I have. The later spec forged ones are 110bcd. Looks like you might have picked up a buyer for some bits on this thread though.

    Raleigh Record Sprint Crankset

Re: Yep (wrong version) after the 110bcd later version - currently have the 1983 "flexible" version that wobbles all over the shop if you attempt to put any power through it.

    Raleigh Record Sprint Crankset

After the 5 arm gold crankset (not worried about rings as looking to run 48/33). Anyone have one?

Modern groupset on a Retro frame - anyone done it

Re: 1990 dynatech with 2*9 sti & compact chainset (and a black quill stem) here.

    Dynatech 500 (of sorts)

I wanted a more modern bike to avoid putting too may miles on my Raleigh Record Sprint (not that I ride that much - up to 50miles at weekends). I decided to go for something steel, but as light as possible on a budget - spotted the Dynatech 500 frame on ebay, also had just picked up some shod...

The real difference between 531 and 501 frame weight

Re: Picked up a Dynatech 500 frame = 2500g for frame and forks. Now have a growing collection of parts, and hopefully a bike soon. Always the risk that it comes unbonded (but if it's lasted 20 years so far!) Build thread to follow.

The real difference between 531 and 501 frame weight

Re: Picked up my wheels today £50 for a pair of Bontranger wheels, Road R1, tyres and a 12-32T 10s Shimano cassette (And for £50 who puts ebay items on to end at 11am?) Came off a year old Trek Lexa, weekend rides only, frame was left in the car overnight and nicked. They look all in good order...

The real difference between 531 and 501 frame weight

Re: Thanks - yes so many variations - http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/reynol ... ochure.jpg says 250h basic difference to 531c as well. Leaning towards gathering as the bits and using them on current RRS - whilst waiting for the right (531pro/Columbut SL etc) frame. Yes wheel weight losing is...

The real difference between 531 and 501 frame weight

I've been looking out for a 531 frame on ebay so I can build a 9-10kg bike and return my Raleigh Record Sprint to standard (at some point - 21 speed at present). However in researching weights of parts - I started to think about the frame itself and what the difference in weight between - 501...

Raleigh Record Sprint - 21 Speed Conversion

Safely tucked away with all the others bits. Looking to build a 531 based bike with modern groupset, then the RRS will be returned to std :-)

Raleigh Record Sprint - 21 Speed Conversion

Re: Yes the gold Sugino was a bit bendy - I put that down to the fact it's just a flat disc (with a lot of air). The Suntour deflects whole lot less under load because of the big/solid spider.

Raleigh Record Sprint - 21 Speed Conversion

    Re: Mine weren't 110 - '83 model with 130BCD Gold Sugino Chainset - so min 39T.

Raleigh Record Sprint - 21 Speed Conversion

Just finished a 21 speed conversion - shame to loose the gold cranks, but the original 42/24 gearing wasn't sufficient for road riding at my age (and fitness)! I'd already squeezed a 7 speed 13-28 on the rear - which helped, but I wanted more. So I picked up few things off ebay Suntour Supurbe...

Gear ratios and hills and vintage gears and getting older

I've got 52/42 + 13/28 of my '83 Raleigh Record Sprint - original campag rear mech copes - need chain length just right to allow some space between the 28T and the jockey wheel on 42/28. It's a 980 mech not a record super - but they look pretty similar size/rangewise. That is the limit though -...

    Raleigh Record Sprint (year?)

Re: Spot on. Looks spot on - but I'm not really going for the "concours" approach - would like to keep it all looking as original as possible though - but it's still a bike for riding. (Used to own a 1966 MGB even at 25+ years old it was being used for an 80 mile daily round trip in the...

    Raleigh Record Sprint (year?)

Here's my RRS - not sure of the year. I purchased 2nd hand from LBS around the mid to late 90s. Rode to work for 1 summer, then largely a garage ornament. Just getting back into a bit of cycling to maintain fitness - tyres had gone brittle (hence the red, couldn't find yellow to go with the...

Raleigh Record Sprint + 7 speed freewheel - possible?

Re: Holding off on changing the front until I've ridden for a good few kms. Rear mech seems to cope fine at present, a few rides will confirm.

Raleigh Record Sprint + 7 speed freewheel - possible?

Re: Well it fits :D :D With the aid of a washer on the drive side, without that the chain just rubs the dropout. No cold setting - and wasn't really aware of springing the frame much to get the wheel back on with the washer. Checked the centre of the wheel with a long steel rule and it...
