Colnago ...Here we go again 70th anniversary and in steel. 70 made.

Perfect for all those hedge fund managers out there. The derailleurs are seriously fugly, though, especially on such a refined frame.

    1983 Mercian Olympic

I found this price list from 1978 online today. The Olympic was only £10 cheaper than a KOM – £77.50 against £87.50. Adjusted for inflation that's around £409 and £462 (according the the Bank of England calculator). A new KOM frameset now starts at £1340...

    1983 Mercian Olympic

Thanks – I do now recall seeing yours on here a few years ago - another lovely colour scheme, and only one year before mine was made. And a great rebuild, too. 👌

    1993 Condor Professional 653

Returning to the original subject of this thread...I was all set to go to Woodrups for the repaint, but then on learning that Mercian are now back up and running, I had a look at the options again. In addition to those two, I also came across Blue Whippet Paintworks which is run by Jason Rourke...

Atalia - 8 or 9 speed campag? - is that possible...

You would indeed seem to be right. I’ve only seen the ones with the shield logo on, but I really should know better by now than to presume to know much about Campagnolo parts, there’s so much variation and yet similarities between them. I don’t know anything at all about Atalia, so my guess on...

Atalia - 8 or 9 speed campag? - is that possible...

It’s definitely been put together with whatever they had spare at the time, seeing as the frame has cable guides for Ergopower/STIs, but they’ve used downtube shifters. Those shifters aren’t Campagnolo; they look like a more modern cheaper copy of some later ones. Maybe using friction rather...

    drillium

It definitely started out as a weight-saving thing, particularity on TT bikes, but also more widely. But like anything in cycling, it then probably became just as much about looks/fashion for a while.

    drillium

Personally I enjoy the delightful whistling sound my drilled brake levers make on a descent... I have wondered before whether the small weight saving from drillium was in fact totally outweighed by the aerodynamic loss as @daccordimark says. Surely all the holes (especially in brake...

    1983 Mercian Olympic

Thanks. As mentioned in thread, the 28c tyres were a first for me, and really only came about because of the fact that the rear wheel can't comfortably taker anything more narrow - but they do make a change from the usual 23c width that I use on most of my bikes. Actually I'm not sure I would...

Help identifying Dyna Tech Chronos MMC

Yes, that would be offensive! 😄 I would keep it exactly as it is - I think that actually will help sell it as it’s then a proper unmolested time capsule bike, and it leaves things like making it a full DA build up to the buyer (there are quite a few buyers who like to have something to do to a...

Help identifying Dyna Tech Chronos MMC

Was this only available as a frameset, not a full bike? I'm guessing that's the case. That is one of the most definitively late 80s/early 90s paint jobs I have ever seen! Obviously rare, and in this condition surely almost unique. Even in this depressed market I would think it would go for...

Bikes and... wait for it, wait for it, Churches!

St Peter's, Hope, Derbyshire. Here you not only get a fine 14th century church, you also get part of an Anglo-Saxon (Mercian, even?) cross. The gargoyles are also rather good.

    1993 Condor Professional 653

That 531 decal was used from 1995-2001. As far as I know after 2001 531 was replaced by other tubing, so this would have been one of the last years Condor made bikes in 531. So, that will be the original decal.

@Rod_Saetan is spot on. Date-wise, with that Veloce groupset it should be from around 2000.

    Vintage Viking bike

Changing the BB and crankset to a more modern one is no problem, as long as it's a system that uses a threaded BB like Shimano Hollowtech, for example. Thankfully the thread on a BB is something that hasn't really changed over the years. The only thing would be that you do also need a specific...
