Clark Kent F-12 Sub 20 pounds

Very nice ride - Titanium done up in spades! Although it would look good black & ti...the color gives it some pop IMO.

    Torque Specs for Manitou 4

Specifically the pinch bolt that holds the crown to the stanchion tubes. The crown I have has a single pinch bolt per side. I have an older Manitou 3 manual but that crown showing 2 bolts per side so I'm thinking that the single bolt will have a different spec.

    Torque Specs for Manitou 4

I've got a Manitou 4 that I just swapped crown/steerer tubes on and I don't have a manual with torque specs. The spec I need is for the pinch bolt that holds the lower tubes to the crown. This version has a single bolt on each side. Anyone with the shop specs on this that could give me a...

"Armstronged Her" Anyone else here use or heard t

It's Super Bowl Week here and last night I heard a Sports Radio guy last night going on about the status of Kurt Warners wife (Star Quarter Back). Well one of the guys suggested that he might have Armstronged her...they then went on about how Lance Armstrong has moved on from various...

Whats the Oldest Most Retro MTB/ATB You Own ?

My first real mountain bike was a 1983 Ross Mount something or the other (I forget) that I sold and went back to a cruiser BMX bike. I had that Ross about a week when I taco'ed the rear wheel and chopper'ed the front fork landing big air. That's what happens when you take a BMX'er kid and put...

    Going up or down?

Ok guys, here is my wisdom gleaned from training on and racing a vintage vertical drop MTB Single Speed last year. First off chain wrap is critical and you will know it when you don't have enough. What happens is when you push hard to climb the chain will skip, just like when you run a new...

In principle who'd be interested. Retro XC race event.

If you pull it off take lots of pictures. Since I'm obviosly a bit to far away to play my input is just that. Back in the day we did "laps" because the promoter set it up that way to keep it simple or allow for spectating (Nationals or World Cup). The best and most epic races and the ones...

"Form Over Function" or "Function Over Form&q

Build your bike up to fit yourself for your own needs and likes and to heck with what anyone else thinks. Back in the early 90's the "industry" labled the dude from Bridgestone a "Retro Grouch" because he spec'd bikes with thumb shifters when the "Industry" went with trigger shifters. Dare to...

    How old is retro?

Great thread, and many funny posts. Now my 2 Cents... Retro - "per my Word dictionary" modeled on something from the past such as a style of fashion or music. Retro does not mean what has been implied here. There are plenty of custom frame builders here in the states making fine...

    When did Shimano introduce V-Brakes?

I've got a set of Paul Motolite linear pull brakes for my 90 yo. If your even slightly mechanically inclined you will see the benefits to the to adjustability of the brakes. Paul has been making these since the origins of the v-brake and I've seen some older anodized ones on eBay once and a...

The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" thread

1993 Yo Eddy I've got a spare frame I'm going to sell soon. It's a 1993 Yo Eddy size medium. I was getting ready to get it repainted and while I was looking for a rigid fork for it I ended up buying an original frame and fork so now I have a extra. Rust free seat tube, dent free and it's...

The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" thread

That's British Pounds...correct? In that color and condition that does seem about right for the Yo Eddy frame. I just got a Yo Eddy (1991 complete bike), frame and fork with pretty nice paint for $560 USD - I think I did pretty good on that one. Has one else observed that stuff seems to sell...

    Kona Kilauea fans

Thanks, I forgot all about the Archives! It looks like it's a 97 model and pretty well preserved. Some of the parts have been upgraded and a suspension fork was added. Should make for a good trail bike.

    Kona Kilauea fans

I've been looking at a Kilauea for a possible purchase - the bike looks like a 96-99 based on the set up. I'd like to know more about it. Any Kona guru's out there that can fill in some details on this bike like tube type, general experience with the bike?

    Classic steel

Nice list...but I'd add the Bridgestone MB Zip and MB-1. A poor man's Ritchey. These bikes rode very different with the zip being like a spring and tig welded (good one for lighter riders)...where th MB-1 was much stiffer and was lugged/brazed for the bigger dudes and folks that could not...

    Early Ti Fat!!!

Interesting, so the machining is the external butting you can see at the top of the seat tube and yes I can make out the sleeve at the bottom of the down tube - if I understand correctly. It would be fun to see that bike in person. Very very nice.
