I like the negative stem and jacked up seat.

Had my head turned by a pretty new bike...

I only ride retro because I'm broke in the first place, though I admit I've grown somewhat fond of the way my lurid M2 Stump stands out from the crowds of black-on-black-on-black Cubes, Focii and even its modern Specialized brethren you find on the trails on any given sunday. Plus, you pass...

Dilemma - Modern or Retro for Mini Ken

I think that Kona Stuff's got a better fork than what I've got on my bike.

    Commute/Road Bike.......

The thrift shop gate: Paid $30, considered it a Flite with a free bike. Put some new tires on and I've been abusing it around town for well over a year now! It's made out of Mangy EX (clockspring steel) and combined with the sheer grown-man-could-crawl-through-the-main-triangle-ness of...

    Best "on road" mtb tyres

They also make the awesome-looking Super Moto, a performance version of their Marathon and Big Apple city balloon tires. It comes in 2.35!

    New School/modern bikers

I think it's more like, if you hit an immobile object, head on, at 20mph? I'd still prefer to do it with the helmet than without, personally.

    New School/modern bikers

Oh man, that's what bike lanes here are like seven days a week. Doesn't matter if I'm on my road bike and I just blew by some people at 48km/h, they just have to ram their stupid rusty 30lbs single speed granny bike in front of me at the lights. DO YOU SERIOUSLY BELIEVE I'D BE IN YOUR WAY? ARE...

    Cranks with holes?

Here's a bigger photo of the Roox (clicky)'. Not quite weight-weenie material though. These things are beefy. They'd probably market them as all-mountain gear today. EDIT: maybe it's a coincidence but I've only ever seen these on Syncros Crank-o-Matics?

Tell us what you eat pre-ride and drink during your ride...

Usually have a bigger breakfast than usual with fried eggs on rye and then while riding I'm all about the ontbijtkoek ("breakfastcake"): Looks like this: It was recommended to me by runners, tonnes of carbs in a delicious and compact form. Nicest thing is you can just grab 500g in the...

    modern forks on retro frames

I've got a 110mm Marzocchi MXpro on my '95 Stumpy M2. Climbing hurts. But then it rolls back down like it's suspended from a cable. The way I see it, as a man perhaps not blessed with the finest technique ever to grace the trails, I'd rather be panting on my way up than killed on my way...

What on earth are you putting in those tires?

    Syncros seatpost poser?

Man if you're in an area so rough you need to lock down your seatpost it's probably best to just keep riding.

    Gold rims/wheels? who? where?! :D

26" Vuelta Airlines come in gold. EDIT: and they've been making them for almost a decade so they're edging on retro :).

Help ID my '97 S Works (?) Stumpy Comp M2 please!

Uhh, Yeah.. My own resprayed and mislabeled-as-S-works '95 Stumpjumper M2 conveniently had a serial number starting with '95' and I kind of assumed they'd be consistent. Sorry about that.

Why no coloured tyres for MTB 26"

Yeah, it is weird how you can get roadie tires in all the colors of the skittles rainbow while the only decent colored MTB tires are Michelin's grey (umma gumma!) XCRs. On the other hand, my current Schwalbes are more than loud enough for me with those huge silver logos.

    Who recognizes this bike?

Possibly the 'El' in that 'El Diablo' explains the different configuration?

    Oops, double post.

Help ID my '97 S Works (?) Stumpy Comp M2 please!

Check the first two numbers of the serial number which should be either on the bottom of the BB or the inside of the non-drive-side dropout.

    My Specialised S works M2 1997

Odd, Bikepedia doesn't know for 1995, claims 73mm only for 1996 M2 Stumpies, then changes to 68mm for '97 and '98.

    Identification please!

    What diameter is that seatpost?
