1978 French Market Raleigh Team Record

Looks lush! I'm surprised too that Raleigh used a French BB on a French market bike. The French never did the reverse for us until they adopted English threading for all bikes.

    Ribble 653 buy

Re: Really pleased with it. And not bad for £175 give that's it's all in good working order.

    Ribble 653 buy

Re: Yes, the paint is pretty stellar - looks like a relatively low mileage bike. If I can find a goodish match a teeny bit of touch-up would fix the handful of chips.

    Ribble 653 buy

Here's my latest bike - a Reynolds 653 Ribble Really nice bouncy frame. It came with 8-speed Mirage and I've adjusted this and it's now shifting quite nicely. Had some old worn spds so I've just slapped on some rat traps for now. Might go for a 90 or 80mm stem as it's just just a touch...

    Colnero identification

Picked up a 'Colnero' frame on the 'bay for £70. As I understand it these were sold by Diamant of Belgium, either made there or Italy and were generally of good quality. A few numbers on the (english thread) BB but no obvious serial numbers. It weighs 2.7kg with the matching forks so not too...

Retro 21.5" retro frame for 5'10"?

Yes, on some modern '56cm/L' bikes with sloping tubes or compact frames I'm often slightly too stretched. It's usually very slight, so I'll get a shorter stem (assuming it's not already quite short). Likewise, if it's a 54/medium and the bars are slightly too low I'll see how many spacers can be...

Retro 21.5" retro frame for 5'10"?

Hi guys. Is there some sort of modern-retro conversion for frame sizes? Have the option to buy a nice 21.5" inch frame. Is that directly equivalent in terms of fit for, say, a modern 55cm? At 5"10' with 32.5"inch inseam I've always felt a bit of an inbetweener - on modern compacts I can do a...

    Raleigh Quasar

It's one of those nothing special (especially as it's not original) bikes that will nevertheless make for a nice ride assuming the fork issue can be sorted east and cheap. I'd keep it frugal. Work with the parts you have as much as possible. Strip, clean, overhaul. I'd chemically strip the...

Classic 1" quill road stem with 31.8mm clamp?

Hmm, not sure that looks better than a quill adapter. Worse, really.

eBay beater - bent fork issue?

Tentatively tried the stair method. After a few gentle tugs, I'd gained a couple of mm. A few more rounds and the wheel went on fine. Thanks. Beater up and running!

eBay beater - bent fork issue?

Long time lurker. First post! Anyway, I took delivery is a cheap old racer from eBay to use as an urban beater and deter thieves. It was well packed with the front wheel removed. The wheel, with a basic non quick-release hub, wouldn't go back on. The hub measures at 100mm, the fork width at...
