    MOTOR CHAT

BITD I spent a year caning around London (and all points N, E, S and W) on these as a courier. It's hard to believe there are some low mileage ones left! A couple of other chaps I knew had GTs with over 300,000 miles on the engine and they were still going strong, if slightly rattly. (And the...

    relocation to London-ish

When moving to London, people usually go for a location somewhere on a line between the centre of town and their own hometown. I think it's more to do with having a psychological connection with 'home' and feelings of security than being able to make a fast getaway. TBH as long as you've got...

    1991 Orbit Illusion 531 Competition...FINISHED!

Re: 1991 Orbit Illusion Those Orbit frames can come up pretty light too. ISTR My 531 America weighs 1760 grams. I was using it as a sort of gravel bike because 28mm tyres would fit, but decided it might be too delicate for off-roading so built up something more suitable.

Re: Lost: Cycling mojo Try down the back of the sofa. If you can't find it there, just let it go for a while and see what happens. Stop obssessing about it and it will probably return. You can't force motivation. Don't push it, don't force it, let it happen natralee...

    Colnago Master frameset SOLD

Re: Colnago Master frameset Well, the chrome's good! And after an afternoon with some strips of masking tape, and some red and white rattle-can artistry Blue Peter style, job'll be a good 'un! One day I'm going to treat myself to a Master of some description, but I'll pass on this one ta. Pity...

handlebars for path racer (including suggestions)

I'm buiding up a Nexus 8 speed path-racer thingy / frankenbike, but don't want to put modern drops on it. Ideally a Soma Major Taylor or proper old-timey Stratalite South of France bars (although they're in silly-money league when they do crop up). Or maybe a flipped North Road bar that's not...

TJ Quick frame and fork, fillet brazed 531

Re: My dad (who I think was Tom Quick's bank manager at the time, futher along the South Circ by Brockley Rise) and I used to press our noses up against the glass of Tom's shop in the mid-eighties. (I'm only a mile or so away from there now, but that parade of shops has now been converted into...

    Jagwire Compressionless Brake Outers

Of course I was forgetting that we're in the mtb section and here's me asking roady-oriented info, but...Top reply ljamesb !! I have a feeling PlanetX have put the wrong picture on their website (their picture of an MTB kit is actually a road kit with its bendy ends), and as I've said before, on...

    Jagwire Compressionless Brake Outers

Yep. Having a fiddle around with the bits n pieces I already have, it looks like I only need two POP ferrules - one for each cablestop of the brake cable run on the top tube. The stops on my brake hangers take a 'normal' ferrule that fits over a 5mm cable, so that's two from the kit used up, and...

    Jagwire Compressionless Brake Outers

Cool! Thanks for that. I think what I was after though were what used to be known as 'step-down' ferrules (POP ferrules in Jagwire-speak), but you're implying that some things along these lines are included in the slickwire kit. Which is nice! I've got plenty of crappy old brake outer to use...

    Jagwire Compressionless Brake Outers

One question Little Skink - how did you terminate the Slickwire housing in the frame cablestops? As both cablestop and housing are 5mm you can't fit a ferrule on, or in, either. Without proper termination or some flavour of ferrule, the Slickwire housing (having longitudinal inner strands, and...
