Shocks worth keeping? (now about Halson Inversions/PDS)

Nativo, I have several pairs of blues still, but no reds. You can PM me if you like and we can figure something out. Justin.

Hey Ron, I found a bag of 10 sticks of blue PDS Poly. You could use one or 2 pieces of the Inversion poly in conjunction with one set of this blue, or you could try two pairs of this blue, the third option to get it dialed in would be to use 1 PDS blue, a partial PDS blue with the...

Hi Ron, I will go through my box of tricks ASAP and see what I have left in my Halson poly stash. It is currently sprung for about 160-170, but you ride less aggressively so I would not think springing it similarly for 195 is what you really want. Since your poly is trashed and I don't have...

Hi, I have some of the stiffer colors I think, are you needing firm stuff or softer stuff?

Hey Nimbus, I get notifications about this thread, ask away! I think that is about 160 pounds but the white and yellow keep the first inch pretty soft and smooth feeling before it firms up. Notice the red is against the firmer blue and not the white? Otherwise it will have a tendency to...

Nimbus, I think someone stored some stuff on top of a bike that had your fork on it. Those are the right colors (roughly) and the right proportions, just short, and it sounds like they are fairly stiff. All pointing to compacted poly. Maybe it got super hot in a car or storage? We ran...

lol yeah, but the brakes actually ARE bolted down so I am fine. Funny, I actually finished a desert race on a bare front rim. Finished down pavement with the last 100 meters in a dry creekbed with lots of small round rock and some larger ones. That is the loudest freaking...

Thanks, like my 16th Ventana or so, to date. 1996 Marble Peak FS Built once but appears to be ridden by a grandma - no suck or slap, not even cable rub at the head tube. Maybe 10 to 200 easy miles? Been a fan since my first (just like this) in 1997-ish that was traded from Sherwood...

Cool. I started making a few calls today on the road to try to find my old buddy and his brother from Halson again. The manual was messed up when I scanned it so if you downloaded it earlier, you will need to redownload it from that link I provided upstream. Here is my revisit to the...

Each of the shorter poly pieces should be 1" long (25mm) Not sure how long the long, skinny, red piece is supposed to be but that is a bit more sag than I remember having. They may have run 1/4" from the factory but we cut a sliver off one piece and just slightly preloaded each side the...

Steerers on the Halsons: They came with 1" , 1-1/8" , and 1-1/4" steerers, Cromo or Aluminum steerers on the PDS. The inversion had threaded or threadless, I assume the PDS did, in Cromo, but never saw one. The steerer is removeable on the PDS, but I think it was a bit tougher with the...

Keeping the poly in good shape: Not storing with abnormal weight / preloaded for any length of time. Keep chemicals, cleaners, etc. off them. Do not store in the sunshine, or let the forks sit in a hot car for too long, can hit 120F-150F range easily I bet. Bad for poly, boots, etc. not...

Preloading a Halson Poly stack I like to preload the Halsons a tad so you don't get sag just from the weight of the bike, and to give a little boost to the rebound rate. If you did not have a long enough stack, you would lose some useful travel. I like to make sure that when I am screwing...

The black boots were prone to tearing so with the PDS came a new boot - much more durable. they were interchangeable, though I think the black ones were so easily torn I never even tried them on a PDS. They regularly switched black boots on the Inversions for the PDS clears when the...

Here are a couple of pics from days gone by. The yellow frame is the one traded from Sherwood Gibson of Ventana to Steve Wilson for a stack of halson forks back in 1995. My buddy still rides it. (I unsuccessfully try to buy it back at least once a year :( ) The orange MPFS is one I...

Manual and Brochure For Halson PDS Suspension Fork O.K., I found one of the manuals! And (drum roll please) two of the original sales brochures they handed out back in 1996. As I understood, there were from 5k to 7k of the inversions built, but less than 1,000 of the PDS forks built...

Glad some of this useless information I store is actually worth remembering! :O) Actually, for years I thought I was THE only person who liked the Halson forks anymore. PDS Poly Hard to soft - Black, Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, White, Pink (This can be used for the Inversion as well, may need...

I have polymer for them. Your setup IS for a 180+ rider I think, very stiff anyway. There was the slender long red, a blue, 2 whites, 2 yellows for 135-145. You could also slice a thin doughnut of poly and "preload" the stack. You don't want a white against the slender red, it gets crushed...

    Halson PDS Forks

You see many things... LOL Nice eyes! Yeah, well I payed $500 more than once so that seemed like a decent price to me. I think... :) I paid more for a 2.6 pound SID Race, but you won't see me give 16.20 for one now. It was like riding with you stem-steerer connection made with a...
