    Giant Stonebreaker

Hi. For sale is my dad's 21" Giant Stonebreaker. He loves this bike, but a new bike has forced the sale of this one. It's in really nice condition, though it does have a slight kink in the back wheel. he's asking £20 ono. Collection from Liverpool. Thanks

    Raleigh Flyer - Worth saving?

Re: There’s also a significant amount of rust on the frame that will need attention. I know a place that will powder coat for about £40 but it won’t be to showroom standard. The seatpost isn’t seized, so that’s a plus

    Raleigh Flyer - Worth saving?

Looks ok to me. Thoughts? Having a good look at the bike. I kinda feel sorry for it, but I have no experience restoring road bikes of this age, only 90's mountain bikes, so I have no parts, and if anything can't be saved, I'll have to source. and then there's the decals. I don't want this to...

    Raleigh Flyer - Worth saving?

Hi. I haven't been on here for a while, but I recently came across a bike that I felt was worthy of discussion. A guy I used to work with has left and moved to China. I used to see him outside of work on a tired old Raleigh Flyer, and one day I discovered that due to leaving the country, he...

    Sticking grips.

Re: Re: Put some cable ties through the grip (the thin end popping out on the side thats going to be nearest the middle of the bar). Position them evenly around the inside of the grip. Use them as a smooth surface to guide the grip onto the bar. Position the grip then remove the ties, one...

    Sticking grips.

Re: I guess surgical spirit will do the same. Not tried it though. I usually warm them up to make them soft and then use the cable tie method

    Paint or Powdercoat?

I got my Max powder coated, and the finish was generally ok, but I chose a local powder coater and not one that specialises in bikes. When it came back, the brake bosses had been coated meaning nothing would fit. I ended up having to take them back down to the bare metal and spray them with a...

    Cold Setting the rear stays

Thanks. of course you can get proper tools to do the same job but for one-time use, they are not cost-effective. probably cheaper to take it in somewhere. But when I spoke to Bob Jackson, they said I'd need to completely strip the frame of components (including headset cups) and then when he...

    Cold Setting the rear stays

Good plan. I've got a GT Karakoram in the loft I'm thinking of building up. Might try it on that.

    Cold Setting the rear stays

Re: Re: not a great deal. the 2 rods in the pic, in each dropout were used to re-align them. I put a nut/washer/nut combo on the end of the rods and fastened them into the dropouts with a small gap between each rod-end in the middle of the stays. I then used the other end of each rod as a...

    Cold Setting the rear stays

Hi. Has anybody ever tried this? My Raleigh Max which I love has had a weird problem. I've had it from new and have the original wheels. the rear hub is a 135mm Alivio FHMC-12 (i think) and my new wheels are built around NOS versions of the same hubs. When I got the frame back from the powder...

97 GT Zaskar - Updated Pics

Yes, they're too soft. Certainly now as I've put on a fair bit of weight since I first fitted them in 98!! I'd like firmer springs in them. I might give Pace a shout and see if they have any. They still service them.
