    2015 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée.

It just takes me 15 minutes to wake up again. OK, not wide awake but sufficiently to carry on. I eat a bit and mount my bike again, back into the rain. We're slowly leaving the hills of the Perche, now it's the time to crank up the speed. There are more people around here, some villages are even...

    2015 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée.

I'm still very sleepy when I awake. There's still some time so I decide to sleep a little bit more and this is enough. I ut on another layer and take my bike again. The remaining stretch to the control is rather fast, as usual I enjoy the long descent to Tinteniac. I manage to gain enough...

    2015 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée.

Right on time the light is switched on. I'm wide awake and leave my cot. But outside it looks completely different now. Yesterday morning there was only a light fog but this is heavy fog, I can hardly see anything. Carefully I rejoin the road. Luckily a lot of riders are out on the road now...

    2015 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée.

Slowly we head out for the first kilometers. The spectators line the road. Especially on the bridge over the motorway it gives a real Tour de France feeling. Except that we don't speed through it. I take my time for the roundabout. 2-3 corners later we reach the wide 4 lane boulevard. Two lanes...

    2015 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km randonnée.

PBP 2015, balancing on the limit. It has gronw into a tradition for me, every four years I travel to St Quentin-en-Yvellines, the Paris suburb where Paris-Brest-Paris starts nowadays. This year I attended m 6th PBP. There was a break in the tradition however, after 5 starts in a sports complex...

He didn't quite make it to the finish. At the secret control in St. Nicolas de Pelem Wobbly enquired about train connections.

Re: I also did PBP 2015 on a classic bike. My choice was my trusted Koga Miyata Grantourer, a '87 model. Got round with some time in hand but not too much. Some time soon I'll post a serious report.

Disadvantages and advantages of not owning a car

I've never driven or owned a car. I safe an enormous amount of money with it. Money I can use on bikes and travelling. I've hardly ever sensed that it limits me. I can get nearly anywhere, of course I own a Brompton for the most efficient combination of rail & bike. OK, I do live near to...

    Alleweder-Velomobile

I've once encountered a temporary deaf Alleweder rider. That was during the Paris-Amsterdam Human Power Race. He had some rattling item inside his machine. There were a lot of cobbled roads during the crossing of Brussels. At the first control after Brussels he was partially deaf.

    What are these holes for?

There are many bikes with rack fittings having close clearances and caliper brakes. If the holes are threaded they are rack fittings.

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

Going back to the historic field. One of the most voiceful countries now is Poland. Interesting is that they still celebrate Marshall Pilsudski as a national hero. And guess what he did? Ordering a general to March into the area of a neighbouring country and annexing it...

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

A possible way out without anyone losing face would be a change in statestructuren in Ukraine. The form where the one parliament which there's now will be changed in a double structure, one choosen via one (wo)man, one vote, the other via a regional system whereby a certain amount of regions can...

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

The problem indeed is that both sides have too much negative points. Putin is clearly playing the imperialist who clings to his zone of influence. But the heavy involvement of Svoboda forces in the current Ukrainian political field is equally disturbing. Their trackrecord during the past century...

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

One overlooked battleground no is the social media. And www.vk.com in particular. Vkontakte is way more popular in Russia and Ukraine as Facebook. What I see there, following scores of Ukrainians and Russians, is that the Ukrainians in general (both Ukrainian and Russian) are very visibile and...

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

The new developments show a serious lack of understanding of current Ukraine from the Kremlin. It's not 1995 anymore. The amount of people in Ukraine who really want to unite with Russia has immensely decreased. In '95 you could state that along linguistic lines, those speaking Russian would...

Ukraine and the wisdom of the RB crowd

In general the situation in Ukraine can be depicted very easy. You have the east and you have the west. The east speaks Russian, a lot of people think Soviet. The west speaks Ukrainian, thinks Ukrainian and feels very European. Both hardly ever agree. In the middle is a band of regions which are...
