Re:
In '96 those frames were glued (bonded) together so the welds are indeed nonexistent - you're looking at a cast lug. Go an inch or so up the tube and you may see a join.
Re:
My first MTB was one of these, but the hot yellow alternative colour scheme. Mine had Exage hubs as stock, not LX (luck of the draw I guess).
I've not seen another one in the flesh since I sold mine in '95, and the only photos I have are old black and white ones.
I love what you're doing...
Nothing wrong with early '90s Fishers, well the steel ones like yours anyway. Aluminium ones have a habit of cracked headtubes (which thankfully mine's avoided so far).
Nice work!
Cool. Just found this thread in its new home. Would be good to have some antipodean retro stuff here. Apollos, Avantis, Shoguns, maybe a Malvern Star or two.

It's a135mm stem. Frame has a 60cm c-c seat tube, but the top tube is 575mm, so not super long.
My LeMond however is a 61, but its top tube is 600mm, so I run a 100mm stem on it. With saddle adjustment, what's 10mm between friends?
Here's my Trek 1420 from 1990.
I worked in a shop that sold these bikes in the mid '90s and really wanted one back then, but couldn't afford one. So, when one came up in my size on ebay a few years back I grabbed it.
I really like that even though it's aluminium it's really smooth and...
Hi
I worked in a shop that sold Apollos back in the early-mid '90s. My memory is pretty hazy, but I think the MTB range back then was:
- Peak
- Summit
- Alpine
- Aspen
- Kosciusko
- Himalaya
- Everest
- Comp
- Expert
- Team
I'm sure there was a Matterhorn model too but I...
Shipping is a killer. Aussie dollar is strong now but cost still prohibitive unfortunately. I'm sure there'll be someone more local to you who'all snap this up.
Cadel Evans rode in his first world cup race for the Australian Apollo in '94: http://graememurray.blogspot.com.au/201 ... evans.html
I worked for an Apollo dealer '93-'99. The shop has changed hands now so I doubt they'll have any old brochures, but that's where I'd start - a shop that...
Lovely example you've got there, and obviously in pristine condition.
Votec built the MTB's ('Bike S and Bike FS) didn't they? I thought maybe they did the aluminium Bike R of the same era too.
Photos of the carbon ones (2003-2005-ish) I've seen online have a 'Storck Bicycle' head badge...
Indeed - though with the modifications I've had to make to get her in a position she's comfortable in to ride, speed and handling are not high on her list of priorities!
It hardly gets ridden, so I'm thinking it'll be a great retro (by then) bike for my now 6 year old son to inherit when he...
