3D Models / Printing Random Retro Bits

What are you using for the modelling? I ended up bodging a thumbie cover using the basic editor on Prusa slicer and the shape gallery.

Have you thought about releasing the STL files ? I have a 3 d printer, been looking for this exact thing for ages. I would pay a small fee for this.

    Going FAT... blasphemy?

Re: Depends on the width of the rim, 29+ bikes such as the surly krampus use 50mm wide surly rabbit hole rims, you can fit 2.4-2.5" wide 29er tyres on them, but I think if you fitted a 3" tyre like the maxxis chronicle onto a normal 21mm 29er rim you'd likely get a few pinch flats, and roll...

An introduction and the Angus Cycling Festival

Hi think this is actually my first post in the MacRetro section. I'm in Arbroath, Angus and have been a long time lurker/ occasional poster on RetroBike. At the moment I only have one ridable retro bike and its my 1992 501 raleigh pioneer Hybrid I've mutated into a drop barred 'Monstercross'...

    Angus Cycling Festival

Been asked to post about the new Angus Cycling Festival by a friend who's organising it, he's interested in having a gathering of Retro bikes, as part of it, its still in the early stages of organising, but if theres enough interest there may be a best bike competition, for original, modded etc...

    Tech question - Rethreading Forks

I'm not a bike mechanic or engineer so I'm no technical authority on this but you might have stripped the threads a little if the Locknuts slipping I don't think running the thread die over it will do any good, sounds like you need to put material back onto the threads, and have them re cut to...

    Is this frame savable?

First time posting in the Road section here. I picked up an old Raleigh racing bike, I think the model is a 'Rapier' (see pic of fork decal) from the 60's, with a low end Hi-ten steel frame, cottered cranks, with 26tpi BB (70mm shell), centre pull brakes, 27" wheels. It had been sat in a farm...

    501 fork or not?

Would it be worth/advisable to try and straighten out the forks? Never cold set a frame or forks before but Sheldon brown would have you believe its not so hard, but I have my doubts about clamping the steerer in my wood vice and applying gratuitous amounts of -controlled- force to the Fork...

    501 fork or not?

bikey:) : Your right on the money with that one. Heres mine I think the 300LXCranks on that one are nicer then mine...at least you can change the chainrings when they wear out. I had my suspicions the forks would not be 501, so would it just be the three main tubes in 501 and the rest ATT23...

    501 fork or not?

I should have added the forks are unicrown, no decals on it. Andy

    501 fork or not?

I recently acquired an above average condition 1992? Raleigh Pioneer Elite LX, Shimano Altus A20 groupset, Alesa rims, Exage hubs, Reynolds 501 handlebars and a lugged 501 frame. The paints black/dark blue with light metallic blue/green spots/splatter paint over it. The thing is the front wheel...

    Ugly modern bikes

Have to agree with you there, that Shand is lovely, though I'd have to go for the burnt orange paint with black decals, or black with white decals, polished alloy parts and tan leather saddle and bar tape.

    Shimano groupset hierarchy

I've had my Carrera Krakatoa for 20 years now give or take, bought it 2nd hand in 93(?), the groupset on it was pretty much all Shimano Altus A20, and aside from the chainrings and cassette wearing out the only thing wrong with it is a little side to side play in the brake lever hinges (rivets...

    All rounder build advice

In an ideal world I'd be going down the 650b conversion route, but at the moment my budget just doesn't allow for the price of a 650b wheelset and tyres. So it looks like I'll be sticking with 26" wheels atm (though I will be seeing just how much clearance there is for a 700x38), I should be...

    All rounder build advice

Well I got the frame a couple days ago no dings or dents, paints and decals are a little tired. I'm toying with removing the canti hanger, think its missing the cable stop as the outer cable would just go straight through, plus it's almost agricultural in form :P justa piece of folded plate...
