Kona Hot Serial Number List - update 14/11/24

It wouldn't be unheard of. The best known incidence of "badge engineering" (to borrow an automotive term) is the '92 Explosif Pro, which I've been told was actually left over '91 Explosif frames - hence different geometry and brazed on seat binder compared to regular '92 Explosif.

    Toxik Harald's Annual Show & Shine 2017

Re: That is one huge assembly of beautiful steel. I have to say Shamus, whilst you undoubtedly deserved "Best Mountain Bike", you really had some stiff competition. Love that orange to pink fade Kona. And the Kos Kruiser - absolute grail bike that one.

    1988 Concorde Squadra PDM

Bit late to pull it apart tonight, the the BB lug/shell is Cinelli made with "Concorde" cast into the top of the shell on the non-drive side:

    1988 Concorde Squadra PDM

That' very kind! Unfortunately I'm in southern Ontario, Canada! I suspect a 52 would also be like a sail on my skinny frame, really to bad, it would be great to show up at a group ride in some proper kit I took it on a couple of little 15km rides last week (in the rain :( ) and it really is...

    1988 Concorde Squadra PDM

My most recent acquisition, and in many ways the retro road bike I've been searching for for years. 1988 Concorde Squadra PDM team. not sure if it's just a replica or an actual team bike, it does have a number plate tab. Columbus SLX tubing. Most of these bikes that I've seen are...

Show us your early-not-quite-retro Santa Cruz's

My 2001 Chameleon, size L, one of the last USA made frames. This is the Chameleon I always wanted, I like everything about it. Fairly pimped with mostly XTR stuff, XT cranks for chainring options, DMR bar and stem for a BMX feel. I just like looking at it, and riding it makes me feel like a kid...

year unknown Ritchey Ultra in amazing condition.

Re: Thanks Eric, good information. Any idea what's up with the decals? I feel I've seen 87 Ultras with the same ones, did they just use whatever was at hand?

year unknown Ritchey Ultra in amazing condition.

Re: I'd be grateful if anyone can give me some idea of year, just based on the equipment and 135mm rear spacing I would guess 89-91, but I've seen similar decals on older bikes. As I understand it, the Ultra was the forerunner of the P-series bikes? Prestige tubed/TIGed. Manitou 4 is...

year unknown Ritchey Ultra in amazing condition.

Just scored this today so cheap I won't annoy people by saying how much. 19" Ritchey Ultra with full Ritchey build kit including cantis, levers, crankset, rims, bar and seatpost. Bike "upgraded" to Manitou 4 and Gripshift at some point, 1" threadless headset with Dean stem. Funky Continental...

    BB stuck - cup broken!

Re: Re: All English bottom bracket shells (pretty much all threaded MTB BB shells) are reverse threaded on the drive side, the idea being that the action of the bearings on the inside of the cup doesn't wind the cup out of the shell. I don't know if Italian made MTBs have "Italian threading"...

    BB stuck - cup broken!

Whenever this happens I remove the BB cartridge from the drive side, (using an impact wrench if hand tools won't do it), then use a hot air gun on the plastic cup, they get really soft and you can just pry them out without any risk of damaging threads, particularly important in aluminum frames...

    Redline BMX Old school

Perhaps the wrong site chap, try here: http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/redline/ Have a browse through the bikes at that link, I'd be very surprised if you don't find one just like yours, and then you'll have a year, model etc.

Kona Lava Dome Splatter Paint - Price?

Re: Re: Sorry for the hijack, but this is new information to me, I've been looking for a date on my Art Dept. custom painted Explosif, it has a serial # starting T90, any clue on the year? More about it here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=363794

A ringer!! (the thrill of the chase)

1992 Team Issue? Was nickel plated IIRC, and Tange Prestige tubing, so actually a very nice steel frame, worth considerably more than you paid. Does it have "Marin" stamped into the rear dropouts?

parkpre which one to look for

Re: Re: Mine has a sticker on the seat tube that says Titanium plated, seems a bit unlikely, but I honestly don't know for sure.
