Steerer Tube Swap Shop - shorter for longer! NO SALES!

I have a Pace RC 35 1 1/8" steerer that's too short (about 190 mm crown to top about 225 total) I looking for one around 230 mm crown to top 265 total, this steerer is the single diameter type as the crown race sits on an adaptor in the crown anyone? Thanks Ken

    GT Ruckus build

I'd strongly recommend Avid BB7 mechanical discs (I have them on all my bikes) I've previously used Hope discs but I finally gave up trying to service them and fitted BB7's, set-up takes a bit of practice and you need really good cable outer but the performance and reliability are first rate...

    GT Ruckus build

The adaptor you need will depend on the brand of brakes you have, Avids for example have alignment washers between the adaptor and calliper body so the adaptor is a little shorter than others. As to disc size it's down to weight and riding style a 140 mm rear disc will lock up a wheel off road...

    GT Ruckus build

The height of the bars in relation to seatpost height is one setting that can impact climbing performance, I originally built my Ruckus with 130 mm Marzocchi Z1 forks and found it a pain to climb on, with the current 100 mm Z1's it's a lot easier to ride up long climbs although not quite as...

    GT Ruckus build

Here's a link to a picture of mine although it's a later model (disc only), I found through trial and error that it rides best with around 100mm travel forks anything much longer makes it hard to get over the front end for climbing. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/u ... 9.JPG.html The...

    Ballistic roadster?

I've just assembled this "road" bike for a mate, he wants to use it for commuting and training but rather than buying a new bike we raided the spares stash ;), so we have a Ballistic Easton Elite frame (about 20 years old but low miles) Pace RC 35's (almost 20 years old with new elastomers) and...

    Polished XT thumbies

The threads couldn't be worse than the ones in stock mounts could they ;) I had several pairs over the years and the threads stripped on nearly all of them, in fact the clunky mount on the DX model was a lot more reliable.
