    Raleigh Banana 531c

Re: Kinda wish I was still in the market for one, it is in very very nice original condition. £550 is a bit more reasonable I think, so hopefully the right buyer will find it, buy it and bring it here with some nice piccies. :)

Superb! I don't know an awful lot, but there are an awful lot of people on here that do! I started mine a good couple of years ago, so I learned a few bits that I didn't previously know along the way. I also learned some lessons during the renovation, which I will gladly pass on. :)

Re: Thanks, and yup it was H Lloyd for the decals and the renovation work was done by Colour Tec of Dartford. Still very happy with the end result :) So I look forward to seeing yours finished, it should look very nice too with 600 on it. Will you start a build thread? ;)

Peugeot 753 in Team Z Colours (last change, 100% finished)

Re: Absolutely stunning refurb, very nicely done! :) And I love that colour scheme, it's iconic of the period; when I see that I think Robert Millar.

    Raleigh Banana 531c

Re: Yeah definitely unusual in this original condition, and pretty amazing if those decals are the originals that came with the bike; I'm pretty sure I would have lost them by now! I guess it's only worth what someone will pay for it, though I agree £675 seems a little steep, it does look very...

Re: Whilst the Banana decals weren't applied to the frame in the factory, they were supplied with the bike in the pack, so you could apply them if you wanted to. And you are right, I bought mine to race on and the rules were strict regarding team logos, I can't remember if I was a rebel or not...

Is this Raleigh Banana a real or fake 513c?

Re: I've read elsewhere on this site that the built / not built origin of the frame can be identified by the metallic decal on the seat tube just below the 531c frame decal. If the decal is silver then it was a frame only, if the sticker is gold then it was a fully built bike. The sticker in...

Thanks citrix, I'm really very happy with it. They did also use black bar tape on the pro bikes, if you check out the team photos you will see it there, and there's a few other photos I have for reference but the team ones are easy to call out. Personal preference played a part too, black bar...

Re: Wow, where did that weather come from? Shortly after my last post I looked at the sky and thought, to hell with the weather man, there's no way it's going to rain again. So just been out for a nice ride and it's crazy hot out there, so nice. 8) And the bike is great, really very happy with...

Re: Finished and ready to ride! Got it all up and ready by about 11am today :) got my kit on and was about to head out for it's maiden voyage to get some nice outdoors photos, but then lightning thunder and rain came down. The forecast for the rest of the afternoon isn't looking promising...

Re: Almost done! Bar tape, rear mech cable, saddle and seat pin fitted; all that is left now is chain, front mech and cable, bottle cages and final checks / adjustments. Hopefully I will be able to take it out for a shake down at the weekend, weather permitting. :D

Re: Thanks for the comments, yes I think I would also struggle with the Ultegra headset, as it seems like the steerer tube is quite short on mine. Making progress having got the stem, bars and brakes fitted, I can now roll down a hill on it! 8)

Yeah I've looked at so many photos and even the actual team bike decals vary in positioning, some have it in the middle and some nearer to the front, and the positioning of the seat tube and down tube decals also varies quite a lot too. So I provided lots of detailed photos to ensure the decals...

Headset problem resolved, and it's starting to look a bit more like a bicycle now! I have settled for a new Tange headset and although it might be a few grams heavier than the Dura Ace, it's a perfect fit, alot cheaper than the alternatives and I think it looks tidy on the bike, so it will do...

1989 Raleigh Banana Team Bike - Dave Rayner

Re: What a great piece of history you have there, and it's so great to see historic bikes which were ridden by teams that inspired a generation are restored, preserved and put on show for posterity. The Banana team in particular is pretty iconic of the era for me, so I'll never tire of seeing...

Re: Step 1, fit the headset (take 2).. sorted the clearance issue quite easily with a hand file so the headset is back in, forks slide nicely into place, fit the top cup and.. There is too much stack height on the DA headset, so back to the drawing board.
