Want to install new internal hub on 1996 Kona Humu

Thanks RLY for your post. You guys know more about these bikes and I appreciate the help. To get the wheel back on the frame, I had to pull the rear apart to get it back on. I am thinking maybe the previous owner had messed with the frame maybe? My understanding is that the Shimano 7 speed...

Want to install new internal hub on 1996 Kona Humu

I was able to take some measurements on my Kona Humuhumunukunukuapuaa today. The actual width of the rear frame is 120mm. The 7 Shimano speed internal hub OLD is 128mm. I've decided if I am able to incorporate it, the Shimano Nexus 8 speed internal hub OLD is 132mm. So it isn't much difference...

    A new beginning (P5): 1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

Hi Adrian. My bike has a Shimano 7 speed internal hub with thumb shifter. As with yours, the axle is slightly wider than the 120mm rear width. I measured the opening with the hub installed and I've got 128mm. The width needed to accommodate the new 8 speed Shimano Nexus internal rear hub is...

    A new beginning (P5): 1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

Thanks Adrian for sharing and the information on this thread. I was thinking of painting my bike but I don't think it would be worth it as I would be concerned about scratching it. My bike is for riding and I've been doing that a lot since I got it. I will be replacing the decals though as the...

Thank you RLY for your reply. I will take my rear wheel off the bike and do some measurements this weekend. I already have the rims and will be looking at dimensions of the hub I want to install to make sure it will be compatible. I wanted to buy the spokes too but I'm not having good luck with...

    A new beginning (P5): 1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

Hi Adrian. First off, thanks for letting me know about Gil and the decals. Gil is going to hook me up with some sweet repro decals. I was wondering how you build is going? Are you finish? I'm slowly but surly replacing parts on my Kona Humu and mechanically it is working fine. Will be...

    A new beginning (P5): 1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

Aloha Adrian and mahalo for the response. I'm not sure if there was any rear brakes on the specimen I have as it is has been modified to a certain degree. It does have a rear coaster brake and a Shimano internal 7 speed hub with thumb shifter. After doing some research, I've verified the type of...

    A new beginning (P5): 1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

My second post :D. I just purchased a Kona Humu a couple days ago. It is a bit of a frankenbike with aftermarket forks and handlebars. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of forks this bike uses? Is it 1 1/8" threaded or 1 1/8" threadless forks. Also what size steering...
