20th July Gates gates gates! 10th year

Re: I have been released from 2nd XI duties this weekend so count me in for this please. Really enjoyed last year's 'desert rats' version so looking forward to seeing the trails in possibly less concrete-like condition this time. Now just have to choose what bike to bring and exhume it from the...

    RetroRoadRide No2 -Brewery Rides AFTERMATH

I quite liked seeing a 'fine tuned Italian pedigree' being treated as a winter hack. It's just a bike, se non è vero?

Agreed on all points - a super day out riding through lovely countryside with a cracking bunch of folks. Many thanks to everyone for making me so welcome on my first Retrobike ride, and special thanks to Karl for organising the event and providing a tasty lunchtime spread and 'going-home beer'...

And now for something completely different. Moulton Done!

Re: And now for something completely different. Moulton Don Iwasgoodonce, That looks brilliant - you've done a great job getting it into such good condition so quickly. Hope your Mum appreciates your efforts and enjoys the ride. I'm interested to see the bike in better detail. It's...

Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Now with Pics!

This is my Mk3, pictured at the Moulton Bicycle Club meet at Bradford-on-Avon in September 2010. http://tinyurl.com/o7fqy9a It is still a work in (slow) progress. Since this picture was taken I have added a small rear rack and day bag. I intend to get the main frame powder-coated white and...

Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Now with Pics!

Have enjoyed frittering away a pleasant couple of hours playing bikes in the sun this afternoon. Took some comparative measurements from the 'brake' plates to the axle, and of which alloy callipers will reach 16" (32 -349) rims. First off, as I suspected, the hole for the brake calliper pivot on...

Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Now with Pics!

Hi Iwasgoodonce, Nice find! It's almost exactly the same as my first Moulton which I fished out of a pile of garden rubbish that had been dumped in the lane behind my Mum's house. My Mk3 was red too, but it was totally original and complete (it even had the optional rear bag fitted), just...

Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Now with Pics!

Looks to me like you're trying to fit a calliper brake to the rear triangle of a Moulton Mk3. You've set yourself up for few complications... The Mk3 was not originally fitted with a calliper brake. It had a Sturmey Archer S3B rear hub as OEM. This was a Sturmey Archer AW 3-speed hub combined...

Turbo-Rolls… Which is the more confortable

<<I found it quite comfortable, but dreadful in the wet, water soaks through the leather cover and into the padding and you effectively end up sitting on a wet sponge.>> The only saddle I've found that was good for riding in really wet conditions was a 60s plastic Unicanitor, but that was so...

Turbo-Rolls… Which is the more confortable

Rolls takes the honours, but I'm not sure if the reasoning is sound... I ride either one of a pair of old fixed beaters to work and back every day (25 hilly miles round trip). One (the 'dry' bike) has a Turbo Special on it and this one sees most action. The other (the 'wet' bike) has a Turbo...

Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Now with Pics!

Re: Help me decode Weinmann Brakes. Yes, you're correct in thinking that the higher the number, the longer the reach. Weinmann callipers started at 500 (maybe less) and went all the way up to 1000+ for BMX fittings. Unfortunately, higher numbered callipers were made of cheese and were so...
