Updated - 199? 7005 GT - Spot the difference! Well, I kept trying to think of what to do with this GT. It's a nice enough frame, light & stiff but I have no original bits for it and no desire to return it to original (I have other more interesting bikes for that). Retro-modern would be one way...

I don't think he means "one piece crank" in the BMX sense, but rather a lower spec square taper crank where the sprockets are riveted to the arms and not interchangeable. I don't recall any Saracens being that cheap as to be fitted with BMX style single piece cranks! As suggested, you'd be best...

That's a bit of a conundrum... The "Team Saracen" name on your downtube generally appears on models in the 1998 catalogue onwards, before that it's just "Saracen" albeit in that same font. Problem is the canti-brakes suggest its earlier as all 1998 on all have V-Brakes, unless the cantis have...

Before finding this site I had 1 retro MTB which 1 barely rode and 1 Retro BMX, both from my childhood (late 80's/early 90's). I now have 2 modern (ish 2000? & 2005) MTB's 2 retro MTB's, a retro Roadie, my BMX and a couple in bits lol

Another vote here for the Montage :-) I have a 1990 minty green one that my folks bought me new way back when. Reynolds 501 frame, alloy rims, indexed suntour 18 speed gears - it's really smooth to ride and not too heavy. Steve.

Next upgrade, partly sympathetic, partly not! I'll admit I'm not the fittest (or lightest) of people, and I was struggling with the standard low gear of 42T/24T on the hills. So a plan was hatched... Replace the crank for one with a more modern 39T small ring and replace the rear group...
