    1996 Saracen Powertrax

I've had this Saracen for about 3 or 4 years now and I thought it deserved it's place in the spotlight here before I moved it on. It came up on ebay quite close to me with little interest being shown. A mate of mine had a similar bike previously which he raved about before it got nicked, so...

what frames use 1 1/4 headset

Re: My 1990 Saracen Trekker Comp has a Deore XT "Super Oversize" 1-1/4" threaded headset: It's a 7005 ally frame along with the regular Trekker from that period

Picked up a proper barn find today

Re: Cool, I have a 21" Montage which I've had since my secondary school days, it's still lovely to ride. It had been bought and then returned at Halfrauds (don't know why) but it was otherwise as new, just a couple of paint marks so we got about £40 off (I seem to think they cost about £200 in...

    1984 Dawes Imperial (Remix)

That's lush! I'm loving the black/brown combo with polished silver - just stunning mate :)

Unknown GT project - I know its not a Zaskar!

Updated - 199? 7005 GT - Spot the difference! Well, I kept trying to think of what to do with this GT. It's a nice enough frame, light & stiff but I have no original bits for it and no desire to return it to original (I have other more interesting bikes for that). Retro-modern would be one way...

Fitting a 52 teeth crank to my Saracen

I don't think he means "one piece crank" in the BMX sense, but rather a lower spec square taper crank where the sprockets are riveted to the arms and not interchangeable. I don't recall any Saracens being that cheap as to be fitted with BMX style single piece cranks! As suggested, you'd be best...

Unknown GT project - I know its not a Zaskar!

Re: This is polished - Mmmm shiny.... So I guess mine is ball burnished, unless they did another type of brushed finish?

    Early Saracen Lovers Anonymous......

Here's one of mine... snapped it up locally off eb@y a while ago, it's waiting its turn for some attention at the moment. 1990 Saracen Trekker Comp with 7005 ally frame! Should have a full Deore XT comp groupset, so it's been swapped about a bit. Frame, forks, headset & stem are all original...

Unknown GT project - I know its not a Zaskar!

Thanks guys, I came up with pretty much the same when researching the frame style: 1996 Avalanche or Backwoods 1997 Avalanche or Backwoods 1998 Backwoods or Tempest All were available as either polished or ball-burnished silver finish depending on which model/year combo you got. Apparently the...

Unknown GT project - I know its not a Zaskar!

Hi folks, I'm after a bit of help to pin the year/spec of this GT I picked up off a mate? If anyone can help identify the year and/or spec, I'd be most grateful! Unfortunately, it's had all the name decals removed, all that's left are the frame size - 18" and the alloy 7000 series stickers...

    Saracen Team Traverse Project

That's a bit of a conundrum... The "Team Saracen" name on your downtube generally appears on models in the 1998 catalogue onwards, before that it's just "Saracen" albeit in that same font. Problem is the canti-brakes suggest its earlier as all 1998 on all have V-Brakes, unless the cantis have...

    saracen trekker

Yep 1990 model, it's in the catalogue scan in the archive - Trekker Comp, listed as race ready with Deore XT... I'll let you know how original it is when I've collected it tomorrow 8) Steve.

How many bikes do you have now?

Before finding this site I had 1 retro MTB which 1 barely rode and 1 Retro BMX, both from my childhood (late 80's/early 90's). I now have 2 modern (ish 2000? & 2005) MTB's 2 retro MTB's, a retro Roadie, my BMX and a couple in bits lol

So which Raleigh MTB is worth having? (Activators n/a)

Another vote here for the Montage :-) I have a 1990 minty green one that my folks bought me new way back when. Reynolds 501 frame, alloy rims, indexed suntour 18 speed gears - it's really smooth to ride and not too heavy. Steve.

    My '80s Peugeot

Next upgrade, partly sympathetic, partly not! I'll admit I'm not the fittest (or lightest) of people, and I was struggling with the standard low gear of 42T/24T on the hills. So a plan was hatched... Replace the crank for one with a more modern 39T small ring and replace the rear group...

    My '80s Peugeot

The plan is to use it! I can't commute on it (too far - yet), but I work with a bunch of bike mad guys and we do quite a bit of mountain biking together. My aim is to fix this bike up and get some miles under its wheels to train and lose weight. Eventually I hope to do longer road rides on...

    My '80s Peugeot

This is my retro roadie, a Carbolite 103 tubed Peugeot circa 1984/5 according to the decal style. I Aquired it (rescued/liberated as you like) at the local "recycling centre" before it could be chucked in the scrap metal skip. I'm trying to identify the exact model, the detail parts are as...
