    Mercedes Benz MB4/AMP Research B5

Have you downloaded the AMP D1 manual and followed its instructions to remove the pistons? The first builder bled and couldn't get it right. I brought it to another guy who changed all the seals, and submerged the whole caliper in oil to get an air-free system. It wasn't cheap, around 100...

Disc brakes v Rim brakes - Food for Thought

Disc brakes just look waaaaaay cooler than any canti or V brake setup. When you're riding a retrobike its really not about the last word in best anymore; just what elicits the most "that's cool" comments.

Re: Re: That’s how I owned 2.5 AMP/Mercedes bikes to get one bike spec-ed the way I wanted! I’m not doing it again! :D

Would love to get a line on a pair of red D-1 calipers though. Couldn't find any. And if you think its hard to get AMP bits in the UK, its worse for me over here in Asia!

    Mercedes Benz MB4/AMP Research B5

In the end, the brakes were sourced off eBay, from Australia. Usefully they came with some spares, and an extra pair of hubs. After a protracted period of rebuilding those D1 calipers (the caliper pistons were seized at one point), it was finally returned to me and I had the wheel decals removed...

    Mercedes Benz MB4/AMP Research B5

So to make a long story short - being ultimately based in Singapore, I had arranged to have the B5 shipped along with my flight home in a bike box from New York via Tokyo to Singapore. By the end of the trip, a small box of parts consisting of the rear shock and its brake calipers were missing...

There, all fixed up and have all the photos hosted on the forum itself. Should be good from here on in.

    1999 Schwinn Homegrown 4 Banger

Re: Re: Sorry about the reply a year late. The later Shivers had their travel reduced. Those that do, have a different decal on their legs; so if yours don't look like mine, you probably have 100mm Shivers.

Probably one of the biggest bike purchasing mistakes I made; let me explain. AMP made these bikes way before there were standards for everything - suspension and disc brakes. As such, they don't work very well, and very few bar Risse have bothered with upgrade parts for too long. You can at...

With regard to Risse Racing - try their eBay page to see if they're more responsive there. They still have current ads running. I bought a Genesis off of there from them but only just started riding the bike and the barrel's starting to score. But since I'm not intending anything more than...

    1999 Schwinn Homegrown 4 Banger

I realize that my last posts had gone off topic, referencing the Straight 6 of which now there are two. So what you may ask, does the original namesake of this thread look like now? In order to make up a matching parts build for the other two yellow bikes, the 4 Banger took on some changes to...

Didn't delete them; rather, they got lost/disconnected as I had them hosted from Facebook. Let me see if I can get the links fixed up.

    1999 Schwinn Homegrown 4 Banger

I've been away for a while, but while the front triangle was away at the painters' getting colour matched and decals reproduced, I came across another 18" front triangle being sold on a Schwinn page on Facebook. That pushed things forward quickly, but placing both original-paint Straight 6 side...

Sorry to take so long to reply - these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fox-Vanilla ... Swu4BVoOAt) are a direct bolt on fit and upgrade you to a nice 5-plus inches of travel.

Its a B5 rear end, this is a parallelogram design as opposed to the B4's Mac strut.

A shipping mishap meant I lost some of the parts from my B5 build. Most of it is replaceable, but I need a pair of front and rear AMP calipers. Let me know if you have a set kicking around in your toolbox.
