HOT TIP! - How to renovate worn and chipped annodised parts

Nail Polish is good stuff Nice job! I can't figure out where the repair is in your photo.... Funny, I had a LeMond frame a while back with some paint chips. Called Trek about touch up paint and they referred me to the nail polish department of CVS drugs. So many choices... In the end I also...

    Mystery Hubs...?

Hub music... In don't know if this was an original free hub body or if it was changed along the way. The magical buzz in this case is made by these ratchets counterrotating against one another......

    Manitou Comp Travel Increase...?

Dare me huh.... That's it then, you've dared me to do it and there's no turning back... I'll let you know how it goes but I'm sure it can be done quite easily. Already had a plan in mind, now you've pointed me to full on directions... What was that last link you sent? I couldn't...

    Manitou Comp Travel Increase...?

BINGO! Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for... No point re-inventing the wheel unless there's no other way... Has anyone actually done this, and with what kind of results?

    Manitou Comp Travel Increase...?

I just pulled apart a 1995 Manitou Comp fork. Elastomers and extension bumpers are shot.... The compression bumpers are in one piece but need to be replaced as well... Anyhow, as I was cleaning and looking over the internals I couldn't help but think that an increase in travel of 35mm or so...

    Mystery Hubs...?

Thanks! Thanks! Yeah I'm not getting too wound up about it. Funny I never considered that the yellow might be a factory finish. Oh well, they do look rather tasty in the high polish and they sound good too.... :D I stripped and polished the frame they came with...

    Mystery Hubs...?

Wow! You nailed it... Very impressive guys! Old school maestros... You nailed it... I'm only bummed now because I realize that stripping the hubs was a mistake... :( I suppose I could always have them redone if I wanted to go back to the original look. Might be tough to find decals...

    Mystery Hubs...?

Hubs Sharp eye there FluffyChicken... Thanks for the bird dog! I've been hunting around online for older DT HuGI 240 hubs. The front looks like a good match, the rear hub shell shape is not quite right. Still, after looking at numerous DT replacement parts, I'm convinced that they are DT...

    Mystery Hubs...?

? Humm... Thanks FC, I never really considered that possibility. Hugi would be cool, that I stripped the original yellow powder coat... not so much. Still no printing of any sort on top of the yellow powder coating. Could have been decals that had come off long ago...

    Mystery Hubs...?

No one Really? No guesses...? Not playing stump the dummy. I don't know the answer either... Even if is just a hunch and nothing definitive, I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

    Mystery Hubs...?

OK guys. Test your old school parts knowledge...? Do you recognize these hubs? These were part of a wheel set which I disassembled. Laced up to Mavic 517 rims, about 1997 vintage +/-. Very light! The free hub body is labled Shimano Hyper Glide C. No other markings except some parts...

    Manitou Comp Overhaul

Breakdown... I sorted it out. There was enough grime on the wiper seals at the top of each leg, that I didn't notice the retaining rings, they blended right into the seals. Put on the cheaters and there they were. There's a small angle on one end of each retaining ring; big enough...

    Manitou Comp Overhaul

Comp disassembly How the heck did you get these things apart? I'm trying to separate the lowers from the uppers. They almost come apart but are hanging up just beneath the main seals. Don't want to pull so hard I damage something... Suggestions? :? Thanks!

The good, the bad, and the ugly... 1995 Barracuda A2RS

Manitou Comp So the Manitou fork on this thing looks good, but doesn't work. I haven't been into it yet but I assume the elastomers have turned to mush... I happen to have a Marzocchi z.3 light from 97-98 that I plan to use while I'm sorting this one out. The Marz is a real oil damped spring...

    FROGSKIN's 96/92 GT Zaskar (Finished - p4!).

Looks super nice... Sweet! Very nice job taking a somewhat dingy frame and bringing it back to near perfection... :D Well done! Do you already have the rest of the build? What are you going with parts wise?

The good, the bad, and the ugly... 1995 Barracuda A2RS

I think so... From the Barracudabicycle.com web site: "Today, there are bikes being produced by a company called Barracuda, but this is a European company that should not be confused with the Barracuda Bicycle Company of Durango, Colorado." This is one of the original Durango Colorado...

    Zinn Z-753. (Ride pics added)

OMG, I'll say! Just a spectacular piece of work! You must be proud to own this one... Zinn is still around. A riding buddy just had him do a custom road bike last year. My buddy is a big dude, 6'8". Zinn isn't much shorter, so he's the go to guy for big riders... I didn't...

Dent pulling I'll definitely look into that. Any excuse to drink beer and talk bikes is a good one IMO... Hope it's fixable...
